Hi, don't know if you've found any more info recently but I'm
sure these are descendants of William Chick & Jane Ragland Chick of Hanover Co. Va. William was born about 1750 & Jane around 1755 if people's posts are correct. Jane's father was Pettus Ragland & if you trace this back you'll see he is descended from Steven Pettus. My direct ancestor was William's & Jane's son Burwell Chick. The name Pettus continued through many lines of Chick family, mine included. You may have a lot of this info already, the gap from Va. to Tx. should be traceable on Ancestry.com. Feel free to contact me if you need more info.

I did not have William Chick as a son of Burwell Chick, but it does make sense. Lemuel Cawthon and Martha A Chick had a son Pettis who was listed in the 1850 census as born that year. He is not listed in the 1860 census, so I assume he died young.
I would be interested in sharing information on the Cawthon descendents, and any other information on William Chick.
