Glen, I recently went to Long Island in search of my family, Sweezy & Pilkington's. Becuase I knew that some of my descendents were also Chichesters, I happened to take a picture of the gravesite of Clinton O. Chichester. He is buried at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, Long Island. He was born 1924 and died 1995. If you want I can email the photo for your records. [sj.pannitti(a)verizon.net]

In my search to find Daniel Chichester, b 1785, I found info on Samuel Chichester instead. Hope this helps others.
Samuel Chichester was born December 4, 1801 in Cairo, NY. He died January 26, 1873 at the age of 72 years and is buried at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Section B, Lot 68 & 69 in Phoenicia, Ulster County. Susanna Andrus, his wife is buried next to him. Samuel & Susanna were married on March 4, 1824, daughter of Sylvester Andrus and Elizabeth Parker Clark. Samuel and Susanna had 10 children.
According to Munson Parker's will, Samuel's mother's name was Rebecca and his step-father was Simeon Fowler. The 1850 Census for Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County shows Samuel Chichester, age 48, chair manufacturer; Susan, 45 year; Lemuel A. (son), age 19; Henry L., (son) age 17; Sylvester Andrus, age 11, and Palaemon Andrus, age 9.
There are two deeds in Dutchess County, NY: (1) he received one from Roderick C. Andrus (brother-in-law) in 1841; (2) one from Stephen Armstrong in 1851.
According to "History of Ulster County with Emphasis on the Last 100 Years" (1983), Samuel's son, Frank traveled to the foothills of the Catskills in 1863 looking for a site to build a chair factory. Frank, Lemuel (his brother) and Henry L. Chichester, bought the valley they later named, Chichester, which still stands today. However, records indicate that the chair company did not last long and they went out of business. Samuel was a church elder at Hunter Presbyterian Church, Green County, NY from 1839 to 1845.
If anyone is interested is seeing the will of Munson Parker, I would be happy to email it. Just send request to: sj.pannitti(a)verizon.net. It is 4 pages in length. I also have a photo of Susanna Andrus.
The Chichesters came from Wales and settled in Green County, NY. Samuel started out as a carpenter. When he came of age he was in charge of helping build the Catskill Mountain House. In 1835, his factory was built in Hunter where he manufactured wood and cane seat chairs. When he relocated to Poughkeepsie and reopened his chair company, his business was called L.A. Chichester & Co., which went out of business in 1857.
Lemuel A. Chichester, son of Samuel and Susan, went on to open his own manufacturing of chairs business called, Chichester & Partridge. He married Emeline B. Davids. They had four sons: George D, Samuel, Henry and Oscar.
