David CHIDESTER, son of Moses CHIDESTER, came to Dunkirk, Dane Co. WI in
1849 after his marriage to Celina Ruth REED in Milford, Otsego Co. NY.
Have WI land records for David CHIDESTER in 1849 and 1850. Would like

Hello List,
I am searching for information on SAMUEL CHICHESTER b.1801 Cairo, NY - d.
1873 Poughkeepsie, NY.
SAMUEL m.1824 SUSANNAH ANDRUS b. 1804 -- d.1879 dau. of SYLVESTER AND
ELIZABETH PARKER CLARK ANDRUS, Windham, NY- formerly Southington, Conn.
SAMUEL AND SUSANNAH had 12 sons born from 1825-1846. They were: AROMA
ANDRUS, FRANKLIN, LEMUEL ANDRUS, HENRY LAVIAS, EDWARD PARKER, NEWELL
OTIS, SYLVESTER ANDRUS, PALEMON ALPHONZO, CHARLES SIDNEY, SAMUEL,
SALMON,
SAMUEL helped build the CATSKILL MOUNTAIN HOUSE and later started a
furniture mfg. business in Hunter, Greene Co. NY-Chichester, NY and moved to
Poughkeepsie in the 1840's where he expanded his business.
There has been much speculation as to the parents of SAMUEL. He did have a
step father named SIMEON FOWLER who was married to REBECCA +AF8AXwBfAF8AXw-, his
mother. Samuel possibly had brothers named Jacob and Henry L.
SAMUEL and SUSANNAH CHICHESTER are buried in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery
along with some of their children and grandchildren.
Any help is appreciated,
Jane Quirk
Hello List,
Mrs. Salmans is a very delightful 75 year old woman, who has been
researching the Chichester/Chidester family for 41 years. I met with her in
June at her home in Newport Beach, Ca. Her living room appears to have
almost as much information as the Seattle Archives. Her regular trips to
the closest archives, require five bus transfers, but she just takes them in
stride.
Regretfully, she is not on-line. She has her typewriter set up in the
kitchen on a metal typing stand and except for an occasional ribbon change,
she does just fine. I asked her how her husband put up with her obsession
and she replied, -he has his own and they are just as bad.
Mrs. Salmans allowed me to take the file pertaining to my family to Kinko's
to copy it. I did have to leave her the title to my car and a few pieces of
jewelry.
I had planned to meet with her next week, but that trip has postponed for a
week or so. I will show her the messages we have posted so far and maybe
she will have some suggestions. No doubt, she will be pleased to see the
interest.

The Andersons niece is Lois Salmans of Newport Beach, CA. She has all of
the Andersons papers in her posession, and travels to Utah to the
Chichester/Chidester family reunion each August at American Fork.
Periodically she turns up a lot of new information, so is well worth
contacting. Would appreciate one of you letting her know about this new
mailing list.
