My grandfather was called Frederick (Fred) Cheyne born around 95 years ago - Im sure he originated from around Peterhead somewhere & had a sister. This probably doesnt help.
Wish you luck in the search.

Hello Mary,
For over ten years I've been following up all references to the name
CHEYNE in NZ. My daughter-in-law's grandmother was upset that she'd lost
contact with her grandmother's Cheyne relations, and as all CHEYNEs in
NZ were her relatives it was just a matter of me locating a few and
they'd be her gr-grandfather's descendants!!
To cut a long story short, I soon learned that the various Cheyne
families in NZ aren't even related to each other let alone related to
her! However, I'd already collected lots of info by that time and it
seemed a shame to waste what I knew, so 'Cheyne' got added to the other
four NZ names I'm following, with the aim of sorting them into family
groupings! It's great being able to give new genealogists a quick start,
or even just providing contact details for other relations.
I saw your reference to John Cheyne and daughters in Scotland so
wondered whether you might have any NZ Cheyne connections? If so, could
we perhaps exchange details and hopefully both make some progress??
Good luck with your query!
Kind regards,
Norma [in snowy, chilly Mosgiel near Dunedin]
Hello, I have forwarded this to my mother as she is more savvy about the
family. She will verify whether it is my branch of the family or not. If we
are related, can you indicate what relation you are to me? Rgds, Martin

Not really relevant but of some interest being Cheyne. I have a book written
by someone to prove that as my grandfather had two daughters that the title
transferred to another branch of the family. I will forward your email to my
mother who is more savvy about the family. Perhaps we are related but although
not a common name there seem to be a lot in that area. Rgds, Martin
