Hello,
I am trying to find any information about my 3xgr grandfather's brother Gordon CHEYNE who was born in 1795 in Aberdeen. I have found from Jim Cheyne's excellent website that he was a Chelsea Pensioner and had a son James born in Gibraltar in 1822. According to the Regimental births overseas from Findmypast that he was in "RE". Could this mean that he was in the Royal Engineers and can anyone tell me how I can find out. I have looked on the National Archives site and could not find any mention of him.
He married Jean GIBSON in 1813 in Aberdeen and his parents were Peter CHEYNE and Margaret PRATT.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
Regards
Wendy in Queensland Australia.
Hello,
I did receive your message.
My paternal Grandfather was Robert Cheyne, born in Ferryden, Scotland in
1859.
His Parents were Alexander Cheyne, born in 1833 in Montrose, Scotland, and
Ann Findlay Cheyne, born in 1833 in Ferryden, Scotland.
I have not been able to trace back further and I am not aware of any named
Gordon Cheyne in my family line. It is possible, but I have not found them. I
probably should be putting more effort into the search.
Regards,
Richard Cheyne in Massachusetts, USA
