I do not know which family Jerry belonged to, but I think I remember some
posts from him and thought some might be in correspondence with him.

I have been in contact with a distant "Cheyney" cousin who is 83 years old.
Before she leaves this life she would really like to figure out who the
parents of John Cheyney born abt. 1538 in Longcott, Shrivenham, Berkshire,
England were. If any of you can shed some light on this, I would love to
pass any information along to her. We know that he had a sister named Joan.
Here is some information she has been working from:
She has been studying Le Feif De Quesneto and
Some early English members of the Cheyney family (F. 3303-Temple library)
These notes are taken from the English book of "Peers?" and Dignitaries.
References state that, though spelled in four ways, all of this name are of
the same family. Also, that the present Earl of Salisbury has the MS. copy
of the Cheyney family tree.) This information was found by Charles Balm__?
Cheyney -son of Rufus T. Cheyney at Yale, Dec. 1894.
She believes quite strongly that the line starts back at Osberto de
Caisneto, Lord of Caenby and Glentham, in Lincolnshire (long before the
conquest).
There is a list that contains ref. to notable Cheyney/Cheyn, Cheyne,
Cheney's in England and Ireland: starting with Robert Cheyney, Bishop of
Lincoln AD 1141, Thomas Cheyn, Deputy of Windsor Castle and going on down
through many other people with variations of the name until Charles Cheyne,
Commissioner of the Customs under Charles II 1675.
Can anyone shed some light on where John born 1538 may have come from
(probably some other part of England). His wife was Agnes Cusse.
Also, if anyone is located in England or knows of the copy of the Cheyney
family tree mentioned above I'm sure it would prove of interest to all of
us who have various spellings of this surname.
Sincerely,
Brynda Cheyney Dickson

I am a descendent of Thomas Cheyney/Cheney who was born Oct. 18, 1797 and
died Sep. 11, 1865. He was born in PA. He was married on August 12, 1819
to Elizabeth Sook in Wayne County, OHIO. Does anyone know the names of
their children? I believe they had a son named John who was born Aug. 20,
1820 in Wayne Co., Ohio. They may have also had a son named Daniel? They
migrated to Defiance Co. or Williams Co., Ohio at some point.
If anyone is also descended from this line, I have the ancestry traced back
from both Thomas and Elizabeth.
Thanks,
Brynda Cheyney Dickson
