Hi Wendy & All:
I am glad you emailed, because I have lost your email address, the Cheyne
line adress & Jim's. I wanted to raise some questions.
(1) From my Perthshire lines, I have just learned to "follow the Laird" in
regard to a tenants involvements in event like the risings of 1715 and 1745.
SO:
Does anyone know who was the was the Laird of Gurgedyke, Methlick, in
Aberdeenshire when James Cheyne was baptised ( to John Cheyne & Jean
Shepherd) in 1715? Also, do you know which side this Laird supported?
(2) Is in regard to the William Cheyne, who is probably father to our
Alexander Cheyne (abt 1650 - aft 1717). As I understand it, we are looking
for a possible/probable link between Alexander and the stem family of
Cheynes - whose pedigree goes back to the Norman era. Up until a few days
ago, I had thought that William Cheyne was "of Cairnbanno" - i.e. one of the
landed gentry from that place. Then someone gave me the 1696 pool tax entry
which lists under the Miltoun of Cairnbanno
- Mr William Cheyne, who property is valued at 3 pounds, 6 s - 8.
- the lands of Cairnbanno - valued at 103 pounds, 6s-8 belonged to the
deceast Androw Dalgardne.
>From this I get the impression that William Cheyne is actually "small
potatoes". I'm inclined to believe that he is related to, and possibly
father of, our Alexander BUT does this get us any closer to the landed
connection we expected?
(3) Did the Gordons of Gight still hold Cairnbano at the time we are
speaking of? As this family seems to be so influential to our Cheyne
ancestors, at least in the late 17th century, I would love to get an outline
history of their involvement in - for example - the Jacobin struggles of
1644, 1689, 1715 & 1745.
Bye
Roy

Dear Karen;
I'll ask the Cheyne rootsweb group about your Cheney as I know that some of
them are researching the Cheney surname.

Hello DeLories;
I too do not know Michael Coffey's email address. The Cheyne group has
gotten too large for me to keep track of individuals. Try sending your
reply to the Cheyne-L(a)rootsweb.com If he is a member then he will get your
reply.
Thanks.
Wendy.

Hello Michael;
I'm sending your message to the Cheyne List on Rootsweb in case there are
some long lost cousins interested. Wendy.
