Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The General Register Office for Scotland Internet service will be formally
launched by Henry McLeish, Minister of State at The Scottish Office on
Monday the sixth of April. Public access to the database will be available
immediately after the launch, from approximately 1.00 p.m. UK time.
The service will provide World Wide Web access to a fully searchable index
to births/baptisms and banns/marriages from the Old Parish Registers dating
from 1553 to 1854, and births, marriages and deaths from the Statutory Index
for 1855 to 1897. An index to census records for 1891 will also be provided;
1881 census data will be made available later this year.
Searching will be possible on the following fields:
Surname
Event type (birth/baptism, marriage, death)
Sex
Forename (or first initial)
Year of registration (or range of years)
Age (or age range) - deaths only
Registration District (Statutory Index)
County (Old Parish Register)
This index will constitute one of the world's largest databases of
genealogical information, including nearly 30 million names. Users will be
able to order register extracts (eg a birth certificate, a census entry)
from the GRO(S) via the Web.
Charging for the service will be by credit card, using a highly secure
payment mechanism. Credit card details are transmitted in encrypted form,
making this method more secure than using a credit card in a store or
restaurant.
Charges will be similar to those charged currently by the GRO(S) at New
Register House, in Edinburgh.
This venture was intitiated and will be operated by OMS Services Ltd. The
application is being developed by RTA, an associate company of OMS.
I have just completed installing the complete Cheyne database on my
web-page. I believe that I have worked out most of the "404" errors. If
you encounter any problems -- please let me know that they were.
All you Cheyne cousins that I had to tell you that I had some information,
but that it was not on the web-page -- now you can see it all.
Please advise me of what you think about it and any improvements that you
know of.
This does not include the older "landed Cheynes." I seem to remember
someone saying that they had a GEDCOM of them. If so, please email to me,
because mine got zapped, either by me or by transfer from old computer to
this one.
Please let me know your thoughts on the new page.

I apologize to all Cheyne Listers and others whom I have promised
information. I had hoped to have a new WebPages up and functional by now.
The planned new edition was to have my complete family history including
all branches.
BUT, it turns out that the complete family database base is too big for my
available space at my internet provider. I am now in contact with them to
arrange for more space. So in the meantime, where will be no change.
I hope to have it up as soon as possible.
If I have promised you information, please be patient.
