Hello Everyone
I am seeking any information on John CHEYNE who married
Mary HARPER at Auchterless, ABD in 1836. John was a coal
and lime meter. Their only known children were Mary Ann born
Fyvie, 1838 and Alexander born 1855 and died 1856. These are
the only children found so far but I suspect there may have been
more due to the big gap in their birthdates.
I would be grateful for any information on this family. Also
could someone please tell me what a coal and lime meter was.

Logging an interest in Margaret Cheyne, born c1853 in Fyvie, Aberdeenshire,
to James Cheyne and Rachel Muirison. Margaret married James Hay in 1875,
also at Fyvie.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone to whom this is familiar.

Hi Darlene,
No, you are not "on the wrong bandwagon" or "barking up the wrong tree", by
thinking your surname is not connected !!! :-)
Check out

Am I correct in assuming that Cheney and Cheyne may be the same name with
different spellings? I have Cheney ancestors but have not seen the other
spelling used. I have just found the list and subscribed but no one on the
list have used my spelling so I am just wondering if I am in the "wrong
pew" so to speak.
Thanks,
Darline
Hi Listers,
Here I go again !!
Searching for any info at all on the existance of Andrew Cheyne.
Family legend has it that he was born c. 1826, Newton, Edinburgh, SCT.
He was a son of Hugh Cheyne and Elizabeth Sheen (according to OZ death
cert.)
He married Susan Johnson c. 1851 in Newbattle, SCT.
I am a descendant of child No. 8, so he does exist, we just don't have any
siblings
for the gentleman etc
I have checked out Jim Cheynes web site.......we're NOT there !!!! :-)
Would appreciate any help

Yes, you are right. A lot of us have been quite. I would like for others to
see the site of: http://axs.com.au/~wsb. In that site you can get info on the
Cheyne's in regard to death, marriage, lair and census in the Peterhead area.
I found it to be really interesting. It was put together by Wade Buchan. He
has done a marvelous job. So a lot of thanks goes to him.

Hello Everyone;
I have in the past month added some 10 more people to the Cheyne-L email
group. I haven't actually counted the number on the list, but I think we
are up to about 60 people....one would not realize this since it is a very
quiet group of researchers. :)
To all you new comers, welcome and please feel free to email the group at
CHEYNE-L(a)rootsweb.com with queries or just to introduce your Cheyne
decendancy in hope that you may be able to connect with some long lost cousins.
