Donald L. "Don" Chewning, 69, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 in his home, following a long battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 25, 1942, in Elkins, West Virginia, he was a son of the late French and Virginia (nee Sacks) Chewning.
Don attended school in West Virginia, and moved to Tuscarawas County, Ohio in the mid-1960's. He owned and operated Green Ridge Auto Body in New Philadelphia, OH.
Don loved playing pocket billiards, and did so every chance he could get. He was a member of the Tavern League, playing throughout Tuscarawas County, and was awarded many trophies during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (nee, Trucinski) Chewning, whom he married on Mar. 20, 1999; six daughters, Star (companion, Kevin Blackstone) Blackburn of Sebastian, Florida, Donna (husband, David) Knipp and Debbie (husband, Grafton) Jenkins, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Rachel Elliott of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kastava Ledger of East Sparta, Ohio and Sherri (husband, Christopher) Vogel of New Philadelphia; a son, Wilbert Brink of Dover, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Glenda (husband, Jerry) Bennett of Winesburg, Ohio, Sandy Polly of Wilmot, Ohio, Sharon Boggs of Youngstown, Ohio and Barbara (husband, Jess) Schultz of Mt. Eaton, OH; a brother, Teddy (wife, Mary) Chewning of Wilmot, Ohio; one half-sister; one half-brother; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a grandson; a twin brother; a sister; two half-sisters; and one half-brother.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Don Snow of Calvary Baptist Church in New Philadelphia officiating.
Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover.
Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in Calvary Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 5 - 8 p.m.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Don's memory be made to Community Hospice, 201 W. Third St., Dover, Ohio 44622.

Gregory Dean Chewning
57, a former resident of Wintersville, Ohio, and more recently a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Friday, May 31, 2013 near his home.
He was born Wednesday, May 2, 1956 in Canton, Ohio, (Stark County) a son of Sydney Curtis Chewning and Edith Wamsley who survive in Canton.
Gregory is survived by his son, Geoffrey Chewning of Louisville, Ohio; his daughter, Heather DiAngelis and husband, Tony, of Ashburn, Va.; two brothers, Curtis Linn Chewning of Canton, Ohio and Dwight D. Chewning and wife, Jean, of Medina, Ohio; and one niece, Alena Chewning.
Gregory was a graduate of Oakwood High School with the class of 1974.
He had taken several college courses at the University of Akron, and he recently retired from Sears where he had worked as an appliance salesman.
He enjoyed reading, working with his hands, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from Noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour.
Interment will follow at the Jerusalem Cemetery on the Adolph Road.
The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Gregory Dean Chewning.

BROOKFIELD - Linda B. Chewning, 69, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Shepherd of the Valley, Howland, Ohio while being cared for by Hospice of the Valley.
Linda was born Dec. 10, 1944, in Youngstown. Ohio. (Mahoning County)
She was the daughter of the late Merle and Elsie (McKinzie) Bogar.
A 1962 graduate of Hubbard High School, Linda attended Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, before transferring to Youngstown State University to continue her education.
She worked as an administrative assistant for Trumbull Supply, where her duties included the company's early-on computer programing, requiring her to travel regularly.
She also worked at the former Commercial Intertech Corp. in the credit department and as a past Realtor, being a member of Youngstown Area Board of Realtors.
Linda loved bird feeding with her numerous stations that included squirrels, turkeys, deer and taming chipmunks with special treats.
She contributed to agencies that promoted responsible treatment and caring for animals.
Among her favorite activities were her adopted rescues and her beloved Maine Coon, Chloe Rose.
Besides flower and vegetable gardening, she enjoyed reading, music, wine tasting and mystery plays. She was a lifetime follower of the United Methodist faith.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, John T. Chewning; her brother, Donald Bogar (Carole) of Canfield, Ohio; nephew Alan Lee (Susan and their special children, Skylar, Summer and Thomas) of Lutz, Fla.; and niece Laurie Lee of Howland, Ohio whom she thought of as her own daughter.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at the Madasz Chapel of Lane Family Funeral Homes at 6923 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield, OH 44403.
Funeral services will begin after calling hours at 6 p.m. with Pastor Julia Wike celebrating Linda's Life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angels for Animals or Hospice of the Valley or Youngstown State University, scholarship program.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the special neighbors and care givers who supported her.
