Chewning genealogy
We are related to Samuel Dobbs Chewning. This is our connection, John William Chewning is the oldest brother of Samuel Dobbs Chewning. I am the grand daughter of John William Chewning. About, 1960, Dobbs and Ethel visited us in Jenner, Louisiana, where I grew up! I was so impressed with their slide show of the beautiful amaryllis flowers, which they grew in their greenhouse.

hi! I am trying to track down any info on my gr-gr-grandfather (we know him as jacob a chewning), born circa 1855, who married my gggmther, fannie buckridge, in dallas county in 1871, and they had my gr grandfather, william henry chewning in 1873; jacob pretty much disappears somewhere around 1875, although rumors and family lore says that he was active as a cowpoke during the cattle drives through north texas until the mid-1890s and that he even had a second family with many children while leasing a ranch near denton, tx....?? does this sound at all familiar to any chewnings you may have found in your searches?? the only enduring and tantalizing hint in his sketchy bio within the family is that he came west to texas with his twin brothers...but we don't know if he was a twiin or if the other two siblings were the twins (arrgh!!!!!!!!!??)..as you can see, ANY info you may provide will be gratefully received, treasured AND appreciated!!! thanks! cathy
