Tom Chewning was an extradinary man who helped me finding William Fulcher Chewning( my GGG-grandfather), Lorena Winaford Lane (my GGG-grandmother) & children among other ancestors. But unfortunately, he lost his battle with cancer a few years ago. He is deeply missed by me & I'm sure many others who he has helped in the past. May his legacy live on. God Bless you Tom, you're the greatest!
I Really Miss You,
Donna Chewning Shields

I am looking for my Chewning familiy. I can not find anything other than my
grand parents, Oliver & Cora Scates CHEWNING, his siblings, his parents &
grandparents. Oliver & Cora lived in Kansas. He died young, leaving 3
children that were age 2, 4, and 7.
Oliver's parents, George W & Rachel Chewning, George was born in VA or WV,
George's parents were John & Phebe Chewning, they were both born in VA.
Can anyone help me with this family? Oliver's parents & grandparents all
died in Kansas.
Margaret

D. Baca,
We are researching the Chewnings of Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. As we are related, I'd like to share notes of Samuel Chewning, the father of John J. Chewning of Georgia and Roanoke, Alabama.
We are having lots of conflicting information about Samuel Chewning of Virginia. At this time, I believe Samuel Chewning, of Caroline, Virginia did have two families. His first family in Virginia beginning around l740, the marriage to Nancy Jeanette Garrett. Later Samuel went to South Carolina on a land grant. He was a Revolutionary soldier and patriot. About 1783 he married Mary Jackson of South Carolina. They later settled in Georgia. He died there in 1808 in Baldwin Co. His son, John J. Chewning was born just four years before his dad died, in 1804.
