George Chewning made a will in Anson Co. NC dated 21 march 1803, naming youngest daughter Marian to receive a parcel of land due at Sary Wells' death who is my daughter's grandmother. Also to Marian's brothers Thomas, John, & Amaziar Chewning. This should identify George's wife; her mother was Sary Wells, but that may not be the maiden name. The 1790 census of Anson Co. shows a Bartholomew CHURNING with 2 boys under 16. I think this is a misreading of Bartholomew Chewning - there was a minister by this name living in Middlesex Co. VA who might be a match. The Susannah Chewning sshown with children in the 1850 census of Anson Co. seems to be the widow of John Chewning, son of George.

I came across a listing of my relatives in W Virginia but the Chewning was mispelled as Chenning. I have seen the original census document and the hand writing could very easily have been mistaken for n's instead of w's. It pays to keep an open mind and think of all options when doing internet search's. Several search's have payed off by using the shortened name rather than a full name, even though they went by their full name, ie William =Will, Zebulon =Zeb etc. Good Luck.
P.S. My listed email is incorrect, not sure where it came from, should be larry911(a)cox.net.
