Hi!
I'm new to the list and have just begun looking for information on my branch
of the CHEWNING tree. What I have was given to me by a family member and is:
John CHEWNING, b. 1765 in Amelia Co, VA, parents and siblings unknown, d.
unknown, m. Mary PUGH on Feb 18, 1799 in unknown. Mary was born 1769 in
Amelia Co, VA and d. Washington Co, OH. Her father was John PUGH, b 1742 in
South Farham, Essex Co, VA. Mother and siblings, unknown.
John & Mary PUGH CHEWNING had 8 children, 6 b. in Nelson Co, VA (Albert G,
James Madison, Ann R, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Mary) and 2 in Amherst Co, VA
(Joseph J. and Avy F).
Their son, James Madison CHEWNING, b 1902 in Nelson Co,VA, m. Mary Polly
MAYS on July 29, 1832 in Nelson Co, VA (have copy of this record), and he d.
April 21, 1884 in Randolph Co, WV (at the home of his daughter, my 4th Great
Grandmother). Mary MAYS CHEWNING died sometime before Jan 1867 in place
unknown. James and Mary had 5 children, all born in the Shipman area of
Nelson Co, VA ("Betsy", Albert B, Andrew J, Cynthia J, and Frederick).
James CHEWNING remarried to a Sarah WILLIAMS on Jan 24, 1867, Nelson Co, VA
Sarah was born 1830, Nelson Co, VA and died in 1903, Nelson Co, VA. James
and Sarah WILLIAMS Chewning had three boys, all born in Nelson Co, VA (John
W. Robert B, and George W).
I've just recently begun my search on this family and the above info is as
far back as I have and I still need to verify many of the dates, etc. I do
have other info on the children listed if anyone is interested. If any of
this looks familiar to anyone please contact me. I'm soooo anxious to hear
from you and would be willing to exchange whatever info I have now or find
in the future.
Thanks a bunch!
Joyce
