Use the book written by Robert Chew and published by the NJ Historical Society ONLY as a source of "possibilities" for the ancestry of John Chew who emigtated to Virginia. The author provides no source information to support his claims for the ancestry of John Chew.
I have spent quite a lot of time working on this Chew family and have over 14,000 descendants of John Chew in my database. Although I have included several generations of "likely" ancestors of John Chew, I have noted that this is NOT CONFIRMED. In fact, I have found no "confirmed" source information regarding the parents and other ancestors of John Chew. So beware of records showing any ancestry for him that do not clearly indicate that this is only a possibility and is not confirmed.
If you are interested in checking my database of descendants of John Chew, you can look at it at:

I'm looking for information on the children, siblings, & ancestry of John Chew II. He was born 1587 in Lancashire, England & died 1651 in Virginia. He was married 2 times. His first wife was Sarah Gale or Sarah Gale Bond whom he married in 1610 in England. Children of this marriage include John III, Nathaniel, Jonathaon, Samuel, & Joseph. John's 2nd wife was Rachel Constable whom he married in 1651 in Virginia. I don't have any children for this marriage. John's father was John Chew & mother probably Anne Broddyll. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Don
Have quite a bit on John and Keturah (many spellings). Will
read your information and see if I can add. Their daughter,
Angelina, married Oliver Hays and they lived in Marion
County, IL until the death of Oliver. Angelina moved to
MT with 2 of her children and died there. Her body was
returned to Marion Co.

"History of Livingston Co., Illinois" - 1878
p. 540 Esmen Township
The first permanent settlement made in this township was by John Chew,
from Ohio, in the year 1835. He settled near Mud Creek... There were
yet no stores in Pontiac... The early settler, however, cared but
little for market or shops. His gun and his hoe supplied him with all
the real necessaries of life, including clothing; and as for luxuries,
he had left them behind when he set his face toward the far West.
Chew lived, like all pioneers, both a hard and an easy life-- hard as
taking into account the many comforts and advantages which abounded in
the country from which he had come, and easy as regards the amount of
actual labor performed to eke out a living. He remained in the
township until about 1860, the date of his death.

The Chew's were certainly a complicated family. I know Alfred Chew my husband's father had a picture of someone in a red uniform, unfortunately we can no longer find this.
There were certainly several quick marriages and in some cases too late marriages.
Alfred never talked about his family, nor did his mother, Hilda Evans.
Sorry nothing else at present, I've only just started on it.
