There's nothing in my database that looks like a reasonable match. Here
are some unlikely possibilities that you might want to rule out:
Edward Chew, doctor, great-grandson of a Sarah Parker,
son of Samuel Chew (1763-1820).

James Chew (1771-?), son of surgeon Abraham Chew and Jane Parker

John Lane Chew (1762-1832), Captain, USN, mentioned only because he died
in 1832. Married Mary R. Wilson, had three children, none named James.

Richard Oliver Chew (1756-1832) of Monongalia, VA. Listed likewise only
because he died in the right year. Married Rachel Franklin Scarf, had
four children, none named James.

I would guess that the second of these four is the only one worth
investigating, and even it's a long shot.

Hi Everyone!
I am new to the list, but I have a brick wall and I'd like to see if this
sounds familiar to anyone on this list. If so please contact me at:

James Parker Chew 1832-1924
I am seeking the FATHER of the above named male Chew.
Here is what I do know:
James Parker Chew, b. 10 APR 1832 York Co., PA
d. 29 NOV 1924 Xenia, OH
Son of Mary Chapman Chew. I have James Parker Chew's death certificate and
obituary. NONE of these items contain his father's name. Family lore has it
that J.P.'s father was a country doctor and died just previous to his death.
Does anyone have a male Chew who died in the 9 months prior to APR 1832?
There are some who make the assumption that this death took place in York
Co., PA., but I am not positive this is the case.
I have been unsuccessful in my search for a marriage record for Mary Chapman
and Mr. Chew.
Is there anyone on this forum who could possibly have an ancestor or
something in your files that may assist me with this dilemma?
Anyone out there? Your help greatly appreciated.
Contact me directly at karen(a)miprofgenie.com
Thanking you in advance!

I'm a seventh great granddaughter of Richard and Patience.
How can I help?
Yes, there were 17 sons in the ARW. Only one girl out of the 21 children and she died in her early teens, before the war.

I found where John Chew was on the passenger list on the Charity, before 1624/5 with his wife, Sarah, arriving on the Seafloure. They arrived in Virginia from London.
I found this list and information about the Charity (which I had seen spelled as Charitie before) at http://english-america.com/spls/625va071.html
I typed in "the ship Charity" in my Yahoo search engine and this popped up fairly close to the front of the list of 120,000 references.
The Charity was as follows:
Burthen: 100 tons
Passengers to New England:
The Charity, accompanied by the pinnace Swan arrived with 60 men and no provisions: Thomas Morton, later of Mare Mount (Merry Mount) may have been with this group. The new arrivals remained, temporarily at the Plymouth colony, placing a heavy burden on the provisions there.
Also on board these vessels were "some" passengers for Virginia.
The Seaflower, arrived before January 24, 1624/5 from London and arrived at Virginia.
On this Ship and Passenger information list, the passengers from the Port of London on the Seaflower to Virginia: was listed:
Chew, Sarah, February 4, 1624/5 (and others)
John Chew's wife Sarah's last name was "Bond"
