I am trying to solve a family mystery of my Grandfather Joseph Chew who seems to have severed all links with his family after joining the Coldstream Guards during World War 1. He settled in Windsor after the war. His next of Kin was William Chew of 3 Raglan Street, Wolverhampton. A search for Joseph (Born December 1890) has drawn a blank although a James of similar age has been found at Raglan Street (1901 Census) - also a John Thomas Chew living nearby. Was there a rift? Why did he never return? Anybody have any clues? Was Joseph either of these?. If my name was John Thomas I would certaintly change my name!
