That would be
http://poslfit.homeip.net/cgi-bin/genea2.pl?id=12539
which also lists some of his hundreds of living descendants (mainly
the ones named John Chew). Take a look at Bob Chew's book for a more
complete list.

I wrote that 4 years ago - I didnt even remember writing this query - Crosswhite descendents are interested in finding a connection between two different women and our emigrant anncestor, William Crosthwaite from England, known as William of Orange (county, VA) who died mysteriously in 1734,,,some claim they have seen records naming a Sarah Chew as wife...she was either a sister or daughter of Larkin Chew whose parents lived in Maryland but no one has ever produced those documents nor did the Chew family history by Vida Vance discover the elusive Sarah, although Larkin an Col. Chew seemed to be involved with the Crosthwaits; then there is Hannah Ward, whom some of the Chews claim was the daughter of Richard Chew of Long Island, NY; married Newbie -had 3 kids -he died in Gloucester, NJ where she married George Ward -he died; she married William Crosthwaite in Philadelphia as his #2 wife, had a child and died.....you read the queries I wrote in 2000...Burt Crosswhite directe!
d me to a Chew that lived near him - that man said he wasnt positive about Hannah (at that time I didnt ask him about Sarah as my Mother and Vida Vance and others had accepted the 3 wives of William Crosthwaite as: Elsa Richardson; Hannah Ward; and Sarah Metcalfe....I havent found anyone who can prove any one of these women married our William, however, Mrs. Slaughter has nearly convinced me that the William crosthwait in Philadelphia, s/0 John, purchaser of homestead from Penn family; purchaser of seat on board of founders of Benjamin Franklin Library in Philadelphia; wig-maker who paid passage for many indentureds - some he apprenticed; some he sold, was the same william whose orphaned children are named by a guardian and lived with an elderly aunt; this man had 3 wives and they are married and buried in Christ Church records in Philadelphia....we dont believe he was our ancestor (he died about 1747) ours first appears in Spts, VAin a deed for land he purchased from a J!
ackson family in 1732---the deed stating he had been living in Pennsyl
vania...never is a wife mentioned in Virginia; never did a wife sign any papers in Virginia; after his death, his eldest son, Timothy inherited control of everything and it was in his will a few years later that we have the names of his siblings but no mother...It was Timothy that had much help from Col Chew who lived across the river - My Mother thought he was an Uncle of Timothy whose Mother was supposed to be Elsa Richardson (no proof found) for a Chew married a Richardson woman in Philadelphia in a Baptist church but the dates seemed wrong to make a definite connection....so I gave up on the Chew Connection, hoping someone would come up with the right lineage someday...I got your reply about the book from Tim Chew but cant open that website...I am sending you Burt Crosswhite's e-mail address...I dont remember if his Chew contact was Tim or not but I am sure he would be interested in anything you find that might give us a link to William Crosthwait, William of Orange, VA.!

The book is available from the Gloucester County NJ Historical Society. My
copy is on temporary loan so I can't give you the exact title. But they I
believe have a web page with a price list for their publications. It cost
me about $25 or $30 plus S&H.
Happy hunting.

You can find your grandfather's line going eight generations back to John Chew, our clan's original settler, at
http://poslfit.homeip.net/cgi-bin/genea2.pl?id=14191
The information I have on that branch comes from Kristy Williams. If you have more that you'd like to share, please e-mail me privately.
There is a Chew coat of arms that was granted in 1703 to someone who was likely a distant cousin of that John Chew (and of ours). One source I googled lists its heraldic description as
ARMS: Azure, a catharine wheel or, between two griffins' heads erased Argent. CREST: A griffin sejant Argent, goutty de sang, beaked, legged and winged Sable, reposing his dexter foot on a catharine wheel Gules.
That is, more or less, a blue field with griffins and catharine wheels.
John

My Grandfather, S. Cosalee Chew, is the son of George and Nancy Eveline Taylor. George is the son of Benjamin S. Chew and Caroline Eastland. Cosalee and Myrtle Margaret Eaton Chew had four children. One was my mother, Lillie Modene Chew Lee. Modene married Edward McCoy Lee and I am one of their three children. I am researching my grandfather's family tree and would appreciate any information anyone can give. I understand there is a CHEW FAMILY CREST and I have been unable to find it.
Thank you.
