Looking forward to hearing your results. My Chew ancestors came to Canada in the early part of he 20th Century (my grandmother followed her husband to Montreal around 1910), and others who moved to Woodstock, Ontario came in the early 1920s. They left relatives behind in England.
Best wishes,
Stephen

Stephen,
Well my family comes from the Blackburn area, also Accrington, Church, Haslingden and Oswaldtwistle, but Chew is a reasonably popular name in that vicinity so I'll have a look at my notes and see if anything fits. I'm sure I've seen a Bertha somewhere, but I'll have to check.
(My father only left the area in the 1930's so I have some local knowledge of that part of Lancashire having visited family a number of times over the years.)
Sally,
England.

They came from Blackburn, Lancashire. I have street addresses. Most of the information I have on them is on my website, www.morrisseyfamilyhistory.com
Write if any of this fits with your information.
Best wishes,
Stephen

Hi,
Which part of Lancashire do your Chew family come from?
(Chew is my maiden name, and I hated it when I was young because people always made jokes. Since doing my genealogy I can now trace the Chew family back to the 1500's and I've finally grown to love and respect the name in ways I never thought possible :O) )

I am related to the Chews on my mother's side of the family. That Chew from the 1950s must have made an impression on you! For some reason I think of "Chew" as being an odd name, maybe because it's also a verb... you can check out the history of the name and find some interesting facts. Don't know Ida Mae Morrissey... I am still interested in finding Chews in Lancashire, England and have put my family history on-line at www.morrisseyfamilyhistory.com
Best wishes,
Stephen Morrissey

Interestingly Richard married Louisa Dangerfirld BROOKES--must have been his first cousin, which explains a lot.
More seriously, I have Richard born 1828, married 11/23/53. Anna Maria Bowie Chew born 1856, seven siblings.
Doesn't help much since this line stops with Anna Maria in my records. Try Md. Historical Society. They have old newspaper notes, and fires were often reported.
I would be interested in what you have on the family. I have pretty good stuff on Family Tree Maker and would be glad to send it to you.
Good luck.

My roomate just bought a house in Upper Marlboro, MD, which he is trying to restore. it was built in 1895 to replace one that had burnt down the previous year. It was owned by Judge Richard Benjamin Brookes CHEW b 1828 d 1907, and it was left to his daughter Anna Maria Bowie CHEW b 1856 d 1927. after Anna i have no idea who got the house. Does anyone have information on her, the house, or where i would be able to find pictures of it. as a footnote, I have done a great deal of reasearch on this family and have some interesting information which i will gladly share with anyone who requests it.
Thanks very much
Jonathan

Someone actually knows someone name Chew other than me. I am not into the research, however I cannot seem to forget a fellow classmate back in the 1950s surname Chew, and by the way you are getting this message from the Washington,D.C. area. He attended school here. By the way, are you related to Morrissey in North Carolina. I had a relative named Ida Mae Morrissey who married a Charles Peoples. Anyway, my email is
