This is not the first time that the Chevaliers have changed their name, in each case anglicisizing it in some manner (a hostler tends horses). I have also seen the name changed to Shiverlear, for example. Many Chevaliers settled around Port Huron and Sarnia area and also between Windsor to past London, Ontario. there is a woman in my building who is from a small community about an hour away from my hometown of Chatham and their family claims to be descended from Chief Tecumseh. I have been told that many of the Metis from my area are descendants of either Tecumseh or Chief Pontiac. In my particular case, the Indian blood was hidden from me and I only discovered it when I wrote tot eh parish priest of the community where my grandmother was born, only to be told that there were no white Chevaliers from there, only Native and Metis,

Looking for an obit for Ida (Staub) Chevalier in 1976. SS index showed last check going to Edgewater NJ.
Her husband was Francis E. Chevalier. Both are buried in Hauppauge Cemetery in Suffolk County, NY. Her known children are Daniel and Mary Minnick (from a prior marriage).
Thank you.
