Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
This list has been quiet for a very long time – the archives indicate 5 years! I hope there are still subscribers:
I’m researching Elias Shevalear born about 1713; married 1734 in Pomfret, CT; died 1808 in Amenia, NY. I recently found a baptism on the Isle of Jersey that reads:
“1712 24 Aug - Elie fils de Pierre Chevallier et Jeanne Picot (Me Elie Heaume et Msse Elizabeth Poindestre sa femme [godparents])”
I believe Elias is the English version of Elie; the date matches well with the “about 1713; and Elias named his first-born son Peter, perhaps after his father Pierre. So, I suspect this Elie of Jersey is Elias of NY. If it is, Elias had at least these siblings: Pierre, Noé, Josue, Jeanne, and Sara.
This discovery leads to a number of questions. Does anyone have information on:
(1) Pierre Chevallier and/or Jeanne Picot of Jersey or their connection to others on Jersey with the same surname?
(2) any of Elias’s siblings: Pierre, Noé, Josue, Jeanne, and Sara?
(3) a record showing the immigration of Pierre and/or Elias to North America between 1725(?) and 1734?
(4) an record of Elias’s life in Connecticut ?
Thanks,
Ed
