Hello everyone,
I hope the new year has been good so far for all of you.
I had been trying to get together with Aunt Lilas, but she had not been feeling well and could not come over for dinner when the Belkofers were all in town. I will be seeing her tomorrow. I will be taking her to a funeral home to see her Aunt who passed away yesterday. Mary was 95 and a perfectly wonderful person. Aunt Lilas was the one who had been supplying me with the photographs, but it was Mary who remembered all the names and a lot of the stories. She knew all the families on the East side. She remembered Julia well.
I told Aunt Lillas that I will have her over for dinner next week. I will try to get her to talk about family history and ask her more about the Chevalier's. The last time I had a long talk with her I did not know about Captola's brothers.
The following is the obit for Mary from the Toledo Blade;

MC GOUGH MARY KENEFAKE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. Mary Kenefake McGough, age 95, died Saturday, January 12, 2002. The daughter of William and Catherine Young, she was born in 1906 and raised in East Toledo. In 1925, she married Charles A. Kenefake of St. Mary's Ohio and together they owned and operated a small business on Starr Avenue, Kenefake's Specialty shop. During this time she served as Vice-president of the Toledo Chapter of American Business Woman's Association and was named Woman of the Year in 1961. She was also active in YWCA programs. Following Charles' death in 1956, Mary continued to operate the shop until it was sold in 1964, and she became a member of Paul Hoeflinger's Real Estate sales department.
She married Carl Schaedler, who preceded her in death in 1970. She became Mary McGough in 1975 and was again widowed in 1985. While she was a resident in Crestview Club Apartments and later at Oakleaf Village, she was active in their programs and at Lake Park volunteer services.
In addition to her many good friends she is survived by 6 families, the McGoughs, the Kenefakes, the Belkofers, the Schaedlers, the Valassis, the Youngs, all of whom made her life easier and happier by their many kindness and the joy of their wonderful grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14, 2002, 2-9 p.m. at Hoeflinger Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., where services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery.
I hope to start back into researching soon.
