Hi everyone,
Yes, I have found even more info. I found the 1880 Erie, Ottawa, Ohio
census for Lillian Chevalier and Byron Dear. Byron's occupation is listed
as a laborer. It shows his father's birthplace as Vermont and his mother's
birthplace as Connecticut. He is 45 yrs old and his birthplace is listed as
Ohio. Lillian is 16 yrs old and her birthplace is listed as Ohio. It shows
her father (Joseph) as being born in Canada and her mother (Julia) as being
born in New York. The children listed are: Fremont J Dear, 10 yrs, b.
Indiana, Alzada A Dear, 5 yrs, b. Indiana, and Lenora M Dear, 1 yr, b. Ohio.
I am guessing that Fremont and Alzada are Byron and Cate Russell's
children.
I also found the marriage record for Byron and Lillian as well. It states:
Joseph B Deer and Lillian Shevalier by Henry Snider, J.P., 1878 Feb 13.
Additionally, I believe I have found the 1880 Ohio census for Mary Cluckey's
parents and siblings (Mary was William Chevalier's wife and would of been
born a couple years after the census). The parents names on the census
record matches the names listed on Willliam and Mary's marriage certificate.
I will see what I can do in the next week. With the Olympics in a few
weeks, it will become very difficult to get to the library. I actually work
on the Olympic Plaza and I will have to go through quite a bit of security
to get in and out of work. I will try to do what I can in the meantime.

Hi everyone,
I took Aunt Lilias to the funeral home yesterday. Mary had no children and she was preceded in death by three husbands. The crowd was small. A few people from each of her husbands family and some of her original family were there.
I did get a chance to talk to Aunt Lilias abnout the CHevalier Side. She does not remember very much. She did not seam to remember Captola having any brothers. She only remembered Lillian Dear and a few of her children. She was very young - 10 or so when she went to Bay Port Michigan to visit Aunt MeeMee and her ggrandmother Julia. She said she remembers that Aunt MeeMee had two daughters. They each had homes in Bay Port. She stayed with each of them a few nights when she went to visit Julia Chevalier. This is the extent of what she remembers. She was only 10 at the time and what she remembers is what a 10 year old would have thought relivent. She does not remember the exact relationship of Aunt MeeMee. If any of you do not have the photos I'm talking abnout, tell me and I can send them to you as jpeg attachments. I have a few more I pulled out and and are planning to scan soon. I fixed my scanner!
It was Mary who had identified the picture of Aunt MeeMee and Julia. Aunt Lilias was only able to remember her ggrandmother. She mentioned she has other photos. She wants to get together with me in a couple of weeks. SHe wants me to drive her around. She says she will show me where every one lived at different times. I'll take a camera along in case I get lucky enought to find a house still standing. Most of Ironville where the family is from has been taken over by the refineries and some other busnesses. Not many himes are left.
I plan a brief trip to the library today. I have about 1-2 hours free. I will go right after phy therapy. I tore my rotater cuff(?) in a fall at the park. It is slowing me down a little. I have a list of questions that have been brought up on this list. I will do what I can to look up some of the answers.

Hey everyone, does anyone think it possible that Theodore could be my Dad's ellusive but real Uncle Doad? I know that some times that toad is a nickname for Theodore as is Tad. (Tadpole) Any ideas?

Hey everyone,
I hope that the holidays were good for everyone. I would have to say that
the past few weeks have been interesting as I have gone to the library.
I found the death certificates and/or records for the following:
*Caroline E (Schaal) Chevalier born 14 Nov 1871. She died of suicide by
strangulation. Caroline was Theodore Chevaliers first wife.
*Jennie (Iley) Chevalier born 17 Sep 1872. She died of accidentally burned
by ignition of clothing from fire out of pipe while smoking. Jennie was
Theodores second wife.
*Marguaret (Lint) Chevalier (Theodores third wife) born 12 Feb 1858 in
Helmick, Ohio. She died of carcinoma of tongue.
*Infant Chevalier born 5 Jul 1922 in Toledo, Ohio. Son of John Chevalier
(Charles and Claras son) and Hallie Fairchild.
*Alexander Chevalier died 29 Aug 1926 (was 83 yrs) of arteriosclerosis. Son
of Joseph Chevalier.
*Charles Chevalier (born about 1893). Died 1 Aug 1897 from drowning. Son
of Charles and Clara.
I found the marriage records and/or certificates for the following:
*Robert Creagor and Florence Chevalier on 20 Aug 1924. (Florence was the
daughter of Leonard and Celia).
*Nelson Chevalier and Catherine M Radel on 19 May 1927. (Nelson was the son
of Theodore and Caroline).
*Leonard Chevalier and Celia Rose on 5 Jun 1902. (Leonard was the son of
Joseph and Julia).
*Charles Chevalier and Clarissa (Clara) Burnon or Burnor. (Charles was the
son of Joseph and Julia).
*Theodore Schavalia and Carrie Schaal on 21 Jul 1890. (Theodore and
Carolines marriage record).
*Harold Chevalier and Sylvia Purtee on 18 Jun 1925. The interesting thing
is that it lists Harolds parents as John and Clara. However, on the 1920
census, he is listed as the son of Charles and Clara.
*William Fred Kopp and Gladys Carolyn Chevalier on 28 Jun 1922. (Gladys was
the daughter of Theodore and Caroline).
I have found the birth records for the following:
*Almost all of Theodore and Carolines children.
*Pearl Chevalier born 14 Feb 1902 to William and Mary.
*Ruby May Chevalier born 25 Aug 1900 to William and Mary.
I guess you can say that I have been keeping busy. It has been a lot of fun
researching everything.

Hello,
I believe I sent the following messsage on the wrong board. I think I sent it to CHevalier rather than the Julia - Joseph Chevalier board. Sorry!!
Here we go again!!
Hello everyone,
I hope the new year has been good so far for all of you.
I had been trying to get together with Aunt Lilas, but she had not been feeling well and could not come over for dinner when the Belkofers were all in town. I will be seeing her tomorrow. I will be taking her to a funeral home to see her Aunt who passed away yesterday. Mary was 95 and a perfectly wonderful person. Aunt Lilas was the one who had been supplying me with the photographs, but it was Mary who remembered all the names and a lot of the stories. She knew all the families on the East side. She remembered Julia well.
I told Aunt Lillas that I will have her over for dinner next week. I will try to get her to talk about family history and ask her more about the Chevalier's. The last time I had a long talk with her I did not know about Captola's brothers.
The following is the obit for Mary from the Toledo Blade;

MC GOUGH MARY KENEFAKE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. Mary Kenefake McGough, age 95, died Saturday, January 12, 2002. The daughter of William and Catherine Young, she was born in 1906 and raised in East Toledo. In 1925, she married Charles A. Kenefake of St. Mary's Ohio and together they owned and operated a small business on Starr Avenue, Kenefake's Specialty shop. During this time she served as Vice-president of the Toledo Chapter of American Business Woman's Association and was named Woman of the Year in 1961. She was also active in YWCA programs. Following Charles' death in 1956, Mary continued to operate the shop until it was sold in 1964, and she became a member of Paul Hoeflinger's Real Estate sales department.
She married Carl Schaedler, who preceded her in death in 1970. She became Mary McGough in 1975 and was again widowed in 1985. While she was a resident in Crestview Club Apartments and later at Oakleaf Village, she was active in their programs and at Lake Park volunteer services.
In addition to her many good friends she is survived by 6 families, the McGoughs, the Kenefakes, the Belkofers, the Schaedlers, the Valassis, the Youngs, all of whom made her life easier and happier by their many kindness and the joy of their wonderful grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14, 2002, 2-9 p.m. at Hoeflinger Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., where services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Willow Cemetery.
I hope to start back into researching soon.
