Hi everyone! I was so excited after Saturday, that I ventured out in a
snowstorm here to get to the Family History Library again. The trip proved
to be very beneficial and interesting.
First, I found the marriage certificate and record for Anthony Kline and
Capatolia(that is how it is spelled on the record). It shows Anthony's
birthdate as 17 Sep 1859. His birth place was Fort Wayne, Indiana. His
occupation is a laborer. His father was Anthony Kline and his mother was
Margaret Cook. He was previously married once. His residence before the
marriage was 3742 Pearl St, Toledo, Ohio. Capatolia's birthdate was shown as
22 Sept 1869. Her place of birth was listed as Oregon Township, Lucas Co.,
Ohio. Her Father is listed as Joseph Chevalier. What is interesting is
unlike William's marriage record where it shows his mother, Julia's maiden
name as Kellogg, on Capatolia's marriage record, it lists Julia's maiden
name as Treet. Capatolia was previously married twice and was left a widow
by her second husband, John Quinn. Capatolia and Anthony were married on 1
Jul 1910 by J N Smith, Minister of the Gospel.
Then, I also found the marriage record for Theodore with his second wife,
Jennie Booker (maiden name,Iley). It shows Theodore's birthdate as 20
January 1865. His birthplace was listed as Toledo, Ohio. His occupation
was a laborer. His Father is listed as Joseph Chevalier and his mother's
maiden name is listed as Julia Treet (Just like Capatolia's marriage
record). He was previously married once (to Caroline Schaal). What was
interesting is that he resided in the same house as Anthony Kline before
both of their marriages. Jennie's birthdate was shown as 27 Sep 1873. Her
birth place was listed as Oil City, PA. Her father was William Iley and her
mother was Ann Noble. Jennie was previously married twice and had divorced
her second husband, Elmer George Booker. Theodore and Jennie were married
on 1 July 1910 by J N Smith, Minister of the Gospel.
What is interesting is that both Theodore and Jennie filled out the marriage
license application the same day as Capatolia and Anthony. Also, Theodore
and Jennie (marriage certificate 15507) were married the same day as
Capatolia and Anthony (marriage certificate 15508)by the same person (J N
Smith). It seemed like an interesting coincidence.
As a side note, last week I also found Theodore's four youngest children
listed in an orphanage in Maumee, Lucas Co., Ohio in the 1910 Ohio Census.
I do have copies of the marriage records (including Capatolia's marriage to
William Meyers). As soon as I can get them scanned, I will get them to
whomever would like them. Or, I can snail mail copies if I have addresses
to send them.

Hi, all,
I do hope everyone's Thanksgiving was good. My Father came and we had a great time but was a bit difficult as it was the first time I have seen him without my mother. She passed away this summer. So I was very thankful that I still have him and a new grandson and a great nephew that was born on Thanksgiving Day. I am also thankful that we are able to share our information with each other
Anyway, to the business at hand.
I had an old picture that I showed to Dad and asked who he was. He called him Uncle Doad. ?????????? Said it was his grandmothers brother. That would make him Capitolia's son. He lived with them. Cappy and Laura lived together for the last years of Laura's life. I don't know yet who the house belonged to. So who was Doad or was it Toad and short for Theodore. Timing doesn't seem right for that. Dad isn't much interested in genealogy and I was interfering with his pasttimes so maybe he said that Doad was Cappy's brother. Any ideas?
Grins,
Kaye

Hi everyone. I found a few interesting things on some of Joseph and Julia's
children.
First, I was able to find the marriage record and certificate for Joseph and
Julia's youngest son, William. The marriage record shows William as being
born on 27 Jun 1879 in Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio. His parents were listed as
Joseph Chevalier and Julia Kellogg (maiden name). He married a Mary R
Cluckey on 15 Nov 1899 in Lucas Co., Ohio by John M Kerrigan (sp?), Justice
of Peace. Mary was born on 18 July 1883 in Ottawa Co., Ohio to Edward
Cluckey and Mary Wright. I also have the 1900 Ohio census record for
William and Mary (no children yet).
Second, I found the marriage record for Joseph and Julia's son, Leonard. He
married Cora T Lee on 5 Oct 1895 in Lucas Co., Ohio by John Parker, Justice
of Peace.
Third, I found the 1910 Ohio census for Joseph and Julia's son, Charles. I
still have to get a copy of it. He married Clara (the Clara I found in the
1900 Ohio census). The 1910 census shows two additional children. Between
the two censuses, Charles and Clara's children are: Julia (b. Dec 1888),
Florencia (b. Jan 1891), Hazel (b. Aug 1895), John (b. abt 1900), and Herold
(b. abt 1903). The 1910 census also lists John Chevalier (b. 1872) as a
border.
Finally, I found the marriage record for a Charlotte Chevalier. She married
a William H Brook on 3 July 1889 in Lucas Co., Ohio. However, I am not sure
who she is. Additionally, I found a marriage record for a Julia Chevalier.
She married a George Leightner on 19 Jan 1895 in Lucas Co., Ohio. I also
found the marriage record for Capitola Chevalier and William Meyer (md. 12
Sep 1886).

Hi Everyone,
Last week I went back to the Cathedral Archive center in Synod Hall. I went through the last of the roll of film. I was not able to find another reference to the Chevalier family. I think I will keep to the library and maybe go to the Family Center in the south end of Toledo. I will not be able to do this until after the 3rd or 4 th of December.
I work at the Toledo Artist Club as the office Manager. We have two shows opening next week. The last of the month the accounting is due and the newsletter is due out on the last day of the month.
Sandra
Cheryl,
Yesterday I sent a package to you. Please let me know when it gets there.
In the package I sent the marriage of Lillian Shavalier to Byron Dear, I
found it in Ottawa County. The church records I am going to look up is in
Ottawa County. St. Joseph on the Tousaaint. But I have not been able to
find the marriage. They might nnot have been catholic.
I have only about an hour and a half to be at Synod hall today.

Sandra,
Printed what you e mailed but haven't read it all yet. It's very
interesting. I wish I had more time to give to the family history research,
but maybe someday. Did you snail mail me the information on Uncle Lyman and
hopefully yours and Bob's Genealogy Report maybe I can fill in some of the
blanks? Did you receive the e mail attachment I sent you, the report? Some
of that is incorrect but I will send you the corrections.
Here is the information you ask for. Would love to talk to you again but I
will have to wait awhile after our last conversation. Maybe in a few months.

make more sense or at least it did to me.
I was able to go back home in 1992, or 93 I don't remember for sure. I went
to the cemeteries and took pictures of everything I could fine. I found a

Kristen,
The first question I remember you asking was Joseph Dear related to Byron
Dear that you found on the 1900 census. I'm Joseph Dear's Great
Granddaughter and yes, Joseph is related to Byron. Joseph Dear is Byron
Dear's oldest son when married to Lillian Chevalier. That was after he ran
away from the orphanage and before he married my grandmother Etta Rose. If
you have computerized family trees, as I do. It would be nice to know how
everyone fits in, that we are communicating with. I'm sorry but I don't even
know who Marilyn (Chevalier) Lorensen is. I may sound silly but I don't know
a lot about the Chevalier side of my family because my grandfather and
brothers went to an orphanage after their mother Lillian Chevalier died by
Julia S. Hopkins on 6/12/90. I also have a copy of the Pension that was
filed by a George Scheets at least that is how it looks to be spelled on Nov.
12th, 1897. Joseph Dear stayed in the orphanage until he ran away on
12/20/94, and the others stayed until 6/14/98. At least that is what I
received from their record at the orphanage in Xenia, OH.
Who is Julia S. Hopkins and George Scheets? The records state that Byron
died in Indiana before they went to the orphanage and I know that isn't true
because I went to his grave in North Oregon Cemetery where he purchased a
family plot and is buried there and also went through probate court and found
that he died in Toledo area on June 11, 1897. Hope this isn't to long and
drawn out for the rest of you, but all these things bring up questions. I
hope you can help me straighten some of them out. I know about Julia and
Joseph Chevalier and some things my grandfather talked about but not much and
we never knew why until I started searching my family tree about 45 years ago
(now 57 yrs. in Dec.). Any help will be greatly appreciated. I started
asking question when I was about 11 yrs. old right after Joseph died in Mar.
1956
Thanks
Cheryl

Hi Cousins,
Marilyn,
I had a fourth message and attachment that I have been trying to send you. It keeps bouncing back. It is a registration of a birth of a male child on 7/7/77. Joseph is the father. the mother s name looks like Womely. I was hoping you could look at it and see if you could figure out the name. The only way I think I can get it to you is by snail mail. Do you want me to send it?
I have not talked to Aunt Lillas in a while. I'll try in a couple of weeks. I have a couple of bad weeks ahead of me at work.
I have not found the 1900 census you mentioned. I would love to see it . do you remember the ward and page number? that would make it easy on me. I find that every time I go to the library and find an answer to something in the family, I come away with more new Question.
Since the family seemed to be originally from Detroit and were part Native American, I got on a list for Native American doing genealogy on the internet. I found a woman who was a descendant of a Joseph Chevalier. I tried to find out more and she was little of abrupt. She was the descendant of the legitimate wife and that he had several other 'wives' who were Indian -When I question her about dates and names, she said she was from the legitimate wife(French) so she say it wasn't the same. ???? I had tried a couple of times and got nowhere. This side of the family might be more difficult to trace. The records were not always good back then, and if there was illegitimacy it might be even harder to trace.
Until my sister found the names Xavier and Napoleon in the city directory, I had never heard of them and did not have time to pull out more microfilm.
Marilyn, I cannot get to one of the family centers for the morman church, I think that is where you said your daughter went. Some time I would really appreciate it if you could look upo something for me. Over 10-15 years ago when I first started researching my husband family, I ran into a women who had had a family bible of the Pelkofer family. She did not know she was related to them and did not know there were any of us ionterested in family history and she sent the bible to Salt lake City, Utah for preservation. I was about 6 months to late getting ahold of her. I think her name was Linda Lee Hessling(?) I tried to call the church and they had not found it yet. They say sometimes it takes years to catalog it all.
I would love to find out what was in the bible. It ws writtin in German with a lot of names and dates written in it. I believe this was Anaraker Pellcover's Bible when he came over around 1840's. The name has been spelled so may different ways. I tried to look in the computer in the Library that has the index to the Churches records, but was unable to find it.

Hi Everyone. My name is Kristen. I am Marilyn (Chevalier) Lorensens
daughter. I have been going to the big Family History Center in Salt Lake
City during my lunch breaks at work. I recently found a census record that
may be of interest.
As my mother has probably told everyone, I found the 1880 Ohio census with
Joseph and Julia and their children. However, more recently, I found
another census record that I think is a connection to Joseph and Julia. It
is from the 1900 Ohio Census for Toledo Precinct A. In it, it lists a Clara
Chavalier (b. 01/1871). She is listed as being married, although her
husband is not listed (he may have been away at the time of the census).
She has three children living (one deceased). Those children with her are:
Julia (b. 12/1888), Florencia (b. 01/1891), and Hazel (b. 08/1895). I am
wondering if Clara might happen to be the wife of Charles Chevalier (Joseph
and Julias son), especially with two children having the same given name as
Julia and Charles sister Florencia?
Additionally, Clara has 5 boarders living with her as follows: John
Chavalier (b. 01/1873), Joseph Chavalier (b. 03/1874), Leonard Chavalier (b.
08/1872), Joseph Dear (b. 06/1880), and Isaac Chavalier (b. 06/1875). The
interesting thing is that Leonards birthdate goes right along with the
Leonard I found in the first census record (as being Joseph and Julias
son). He is listed in the census as being married at the time. I had
noticed previously that Sandra had listed a John as one of Joseph and
Julias siblings. However, there was no John listed in the first census
listed. However, in the more recent census found, the birthdate for the
John listed goes along with what Sandra had listed. Could John actually be
a cousin to the family instead of a sibling? Also, could Joseph Dear be any
relation to Byron Dear?
Sandra, my mother stated that you said that Theodore was buried in the
Willow Cemetery. Have you been out to that Cemetery? I was curious to see
if Theodore is buried near Caroline or Carrie Schaal? I was also curious to
see if the headstones listed any other dates or names? Also, you had
mentioned that you had found two Caroline or Carrie Schaals in the area that
had died within a few years possible. I remember my mother saying that
Theodores wife Caroline (or Carrie) had committed suicide. If so, I was
wondering if there would have been a newspaper article about it (possibly
around the death date of one of the two Caroline or Carrie Schaals that you
found)?
When I can get access to a scanner, I will try to scan the two census
records I found for everyone.
I hope that the information I found may be of help to everyone.
Kristen
