Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

LARGEST DEPOSITORY OF ONLINE FAMILY HISTORY DATA IS TO BE SOLD FOR
$1.6 BILLION
It is reported that Ancestry.com is to be sold to Permira a European
private equity firm. Ancestry.com has more than 2 million paying
subscribers who can access more than 10 billion records
Ancestry.com and Permira have stated that the focus will continue to
be on "investing in content, technology and its user experience,
expanding its product offerings in areas like DNA and building the
Ancestry.com brand and the family history category, all on a global
basis".
The company headquarters will remain in Provo, Utah with a continued
presence in London, Dublin and San Francisco.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ancestry.com shareholders will
receive $32 for each share they own. There are reports that the Board
of Directors of Ancestry.com are being investigated for possible
breaches of fiduciary duty.

findmypast.co.uk have teamed up to offer their members free access to
all 1911 census transcriptions from today until 18th November 2012.
The 1911 census is a great place to start researching your family
history as the records are the most detailed of any census. It
includes places of birth, details of siblings, occupations, how many
children have been born to the marriage, how many still alive at the
time of the census and how many had died.
