CHESTER Cynthia Johnson Chester, 76, of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away Monday, July 12, 2010.
She was born on November 17, 1933 to the late William Marvin and Harriet Gest Johnson of Urbana, Ohio.
She was a graduate of Urbana High School. She went on to attend Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, NY, and The Ohio State University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
After college she was secretary of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Urbana, Ohio.
She married John J. "Jack" Chester on April 18, 1959.
She was a member of the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees, Childhood League Assisting Board V, the Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) Women's Board, Children's Hospital Twig 118, and Canterbury Unit of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
She also was a past member of the Ohio Historical Society Foundation Board, CMA Board of Trustees, Riverside Methodist Hospitals' Service Board III, the Junior League of Columbus, Homeless Families Foundation, Columbus Bar Association Auxiliary, Inniswood Society of the Franklin Park Conservatory, Friends of the Historic Costume and Textile Collection at The Ohio State University, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Association, and CAPA Colleagues.
She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the former W.B. Marvin Manufacturing Company in Urbana, Ohio.
A long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Upper Arlington, Cynthia taught Sunday school for 19 years and served as a member of the church's Flower Guild. She was a member of Scioto Country Club, Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club and the Columbus Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers James B. Johnson, Truman Gest Johnson, and William Marvin Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, John "Jack" Chester; children, John J. (Judy) Chester, James J. (Karen) Chester, Joel J. Chester, and Cecily (Brett) Chester Alexander; grandchildren, Kara, Abigail, Julia, Jack, Elizabeth, Jay, Brooke, Anna, Cynthia, Sarah, and Graham. Friends may call Friday, July 16, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221. Pastor Bruce Smith officiating.
Interment will be private at a later date. Contributions in Cynthia's honor may be made to the Ohio Historical Society

I'm not related but my wife and I have just moved into the house that John Chester built in about 1832 near Merrickville in Montague township.
I'm trying to find history about the house.
