Matilda Chester was born in Texas in late 1859, the daughter of Franklin G. Chester and Elmire Bottoms Chester. Franklin came to Texas from Decatur County, Tennessee in January 1853, and settled in Tarrant, Hopkins County, Texas in 1854. Franklin joined the 27th Texas Cavalry (First Texas Legion) in March of 1862. He died "in hospital" in Columbus, Mississippi on 21 June 1862, probably from disease. In 1864, his widow married Andrew G. Barclay of Hopkins County, and had several children with him. Matilda had an older brother, William, born about 1857. What became of him, I don't know. He seemed to disappear after the 1860 census. Let me know if you'd like any more info about the other Chesters.

Mary Chester was my gr gr grandmother. She was born in St. Louis, St. Louis Co. MO (per 1880 census and per her d.c.) c. 1836. She married Judge William Cuthbert Jones 20 Nov 1856 in St. Louis MO.
Her father was Joseph Chester (family oral history says he was born in Chester, England) and her mother was Fanny (Frances) Willmington, b. in Eng.
I am interested in knowing more info on Joseph and Fanny.
