How exciting to be able to connect to someone looking for this part of the
family:
I am the great great great granddaughter of William Willis Chessman and Lydia
Weathman Griffeth and the great great granddaughter of Abel Griffeth and
Eliza Brickley. I live in Arlington Heights Ilinois which is a short drive from
the Thorndale Home (which is about to be demolished for a new road) and Itasca
which is where the family settled. William and Lydia are buried in Lemont
Illinois. I am on the board of the Itasca Historical Society and would be
pleased to share all I have with you.
William was born near Germantown, PA on January 29, 1800 and had two sisters:
Delorah, Rebecca and a brother James. To date we have not been able to find
William's parents. He married Lydia Weathman Griffeth on September 30, 1828 in
Roadstown,Cumberland County, New Jersey. They came to Ilinois and had 7
children: Ellis Ayers, Abel Griffeth, Francis, George, Jarvis, Ruth Wheaton and
Delorah Jane. Ruth Wheaton Chessman wrote an interesting account of the family
history --of William as a merchant seaman, and of his travels into Illinois.
Abel and Eliza Francis Brickley had 13 children: Anna, William, Carrie,
Grant Ellis, Leonard, Phila, Joseph, Walter, Alida, Abel Griffeth, Robert, Marie
and George. Phila was my great grandmother. I have a number of ties to other
family lines with members who live in the Chicagoland area--and would be
pleased to share whatever I have. Please let me know some of the things which
would interst you most and I will begin to funnel things your way. My sincere
hope is that one day we will be able to solve the mystery of William and his
parents.....hoping you might be able to help! Looking forward to many wonderful
discussions...Bonnie O'Brien

This is not the same William Chessman. His parents are John and Linda (Wild) Chessman and he was born in Weymouth, MA. I find no mention of Abel and Elisa (Brickley) Chessman in the biography, nor do I find a sister Anna, or a mention of Adison Township, Illinois.
I do not have any further information on William Allen Chessman.

Hi Carole,
I'm not sure I have the correct family but I hoping I do.
Is the William Chessman you have the same William Chessman the brother of Anna Chessman who has 11 brothers and sister from Adison Township Illinois?
WIlliam 's mother and father are Abel G. Chessman and Elisa Brickley.
Any word back would be great.

I am hoping for a little luck here. My mom's cousin and I are looking to fill in alot of information about the A.G. Chessman Family who was the first post master in Addison around 1840-1860's I have some information, but we cannot connect the dots anywhere. We do know that A.G. married Eliza or Elisa (Frances) Brickley on December 8th, 1855 in Dupage County and AG's fathers name was William Willis Chessman and William married Lydia Griffith possibly in Roadstown, NJ but that's as far back as we can go. We also know that one of William and Lydia's sons (George) served in the Civil War. We are hoping to find out more about the Chessman's and know that their original house is still standing today which we have pictures of on Thorndale Road in Addison.IL . We were hoping to find someone with pictures of AG and Eliza or family members still living (descendants of course) We've tried the village with no luck. Could anyone possibly connect us to married descendents???
Thanks!!!
