descendants of Elizabeth Chesser who married William Burris Apr 21, 1812
in Washington Co., KY. Elizabeth is believed to be the daughter of John
Baptist Cheshire. I have never found her after the 1820 census when

There is another connection, we have an ELizabeth Hardin who married a

she married Elizabeth's brother, Benjamin Chesser.

Please contact me at ctwhe(a)aol.com This is of my direct line. I have quite a bit of information on the Chessers but could always use more. Nancy Jane Married Thomas Jefferson Dodd. Samuel Chesser (b. 1803)and Dorinda Hembee
were married in Warren co. Tn. (lived in Taney co. Mo. 1840)
(Samuel's children lived in Polk co. Mo)
--------------
Samuel is on the 1830 Warren co. Tn.census, next to
James Chesser, older man, kin?
------------------------------
Need names of all of James children.
Susannah, Martha, (m: Ledbetters lived in Madison co. Ark)
Wills, church, etc.
---------------
(who is Jame's parents?) lived in Maryland ?
Is there any way you could share the 1880 census ? Do you have a scanner
?
My great aunt (Lullie Lewis) is married to Thurman Chesser. She's 90+
and
he's older by a few years. She told me 10 yrs ago that they've been in
Washington county all their lives. Her memory is mostly gone now.

Angie, a cousin just sent me the census for 1880 Washington Co. I have four Johns, only one married and her name shown as Mary. What were your children's names?
My father's father Harry Herman Bernhardt married Missouri Sarah Chesser sometime between 1921-1923, we believe somewhere in Alabama or Florida. Her death certificate shows her father's name as T.E. Chesser. He is listed in the 1932 City Directory in Baker, Florida. She had a son (my father) born in Mobile, AL on 9/11/1922. Missouri was placed in the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, GA and passed away in Feb. 1979. Her husband Harry Bernhardt passed away on June 28, 1932 and buried in Savannah, GA. Is there anyone who can give me some information on this Chesser family.
I don't think so, by the time they had children, the practice of naming after family was pretty well over. You might check the 1870 & 1880 census for Washington Co. There should be plenty of Chessers there.
Good luck
William Chesser b: ? in KY had a daughter Mary Jane CHESSER b: 1-7-1849. I
found a William Chesser in the 1850 GreenUp Co. KY census married to a Mary
Ann? Can't find them anywhere else.
Angie, Washington Co. is right, I have a John R. Chesser, age 3 on the 1860 census for Wash. Co.
James Chiser, age 26, farmer, b. KY, can't r/w
Mary J., age 27, b. KY
Mary M., age 9
Thomas, age 6
John R., age 3
This family is living next door to Dorman Chesser and is believed to be a son of his.
James and Martha Chesser are next door to Dorman in 1850, also.
Dorman Chesher, age 48, b. KY can't r/w Dorman married Martha (Patsey) Baird (Bird) in Nelson Co., KY in 1831.
Dorman is the son of Benjamin Chesser (Cheshire) who was b. between 1774 & 1784 in either VA or MD. We think Maryland. Benjamin married Elizabeth Hardin on Mar. 17, 1800 in Washington Co., KY
Benjamin is believed to be the son of John Baptist Cheshire, a Rev. War soldier.
Other Cheshire-Hardin marriages we've found, not all identified, all in Washington Co:
Bedan Chesser to Charlotte Hardin Jun 1, 1835, Bedan or Benjamin is also a son of Benjamin.
Palmer Cheshire to Clara Hardin, abt 1900
Thomas Cheshire to Elizabeth Hardin Apr 19, 1860
Hardin Cheshire to Jane Hardin, Nov. 5, 1841; Hardin is another son of Benjamin & Elizabeth Hardin Chesser
For information on John Baptist's Rev. War service, see my website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~smith
Let me know if I can help any more.
