Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
to whom it my concern,
I am looking for a chesnut family line that might have
been living in the Bedford Co. PA area in the late 1830's.
My g.g. grandfather, John McChesney, was born in Bedford,
Bedford Co. PA in 1839 or 1840. He was listed in the 1850
cencus as John Chesnet (or Chesnut), & living with the
family of Wilson Johnston. Any info on these names & places,
please let me know at kmcchessney(a)peoplepc.com

I recently traced my paternal grandparents back seven generations to Alexander Chesnut, Sr. born about 1650 in Northern Ireland - died before October 12, 1690. ( I haven't found the name of his wife, my G-G-G-G-G-G grandmother.) They had two sons. Alexander Chesnut, Jr. b. 1672 & d. 1749. His wife was named Mary O'Draine. Perhaps there is a connection to the one Mark is researching.. It is the same year he mentioned but the name is not Abraham. Could it have been Alexander?

An inquiry from Mark regarding Mary O'Draine was made on March 6, 2007.
The other son of Alexander Chesnut, Sr. was John Chesnut, Sr. from whom we are directly descended.
The name sort of jumped out at me so I thought I'd share.
