Diana,
When you send me any informatioj would you please send it to
"thechiggers(a)aol.com" ruchesnut is my wife's screen name. If you have contacted some one
who is going to visit the Bedford cemetery that could be me. I sent you
coorespondence from the chiggers the other day. The information you just sent has
filled a few holes I had, and for that I thank you. Today I had contact with
my 2nd cousin who lives in Owensburg, IN (20 miles from Bedford). She spend a
considerable amount of time in Bedford and she is going to check out the
location of the Beach Grove cemetery in Bedford. I hope it is the one where my
grandfather Lafe and my Great grandmother Nancy Jane Fordyce. We have always
pronouced it
four-dice. I remeber when I was about 12 years old making a visit to a
family in Bedford named Fordyce, and also to a familty in Indianapolis named Blair.
It is my strong feeling based on information I have that both of these
families are part of our line. I knowq definitley that you and I are remotely
connected as your great grandmother and my grandfather were brother and sister.
Right now I am pretty busy with bowling and some work around the house, but I
may try and call you in the near future. If the weather here stays bad (Rain &
Cold) I may try to make a trip to Bedford in the next couple of weeks.
Will kewep you informed of any progress I make on our family line.
By the way you can address me as Tom, Thomas is just a little formal for
family members.
Tom Chesnut

Dear Thomas, I was reviewing my genealogy emails and I
can't remember if I replied to your letter. If I did
I am sorry for the duplication, but since we are so
closely related and doing the same line, I feel like I
should keep in touch.
My great grandmother was Della Mae Chestnut Earl. She
was the oldest daughter of Hannigan Chestnut (born 25
June 1853) and Frances Lidorna Howell (b 10 Mar
1857).Hannigan had 7 children all born in Bedford,
Indiana.
Hannigan was the son of William Thomas Chestnut and
Nancy Jane Fordyce (My family pronounces this as four
de see. Do you know if this is correct?) William
Thomas, known as Thomas had 5 children that I am aware
of, although the 1920 census states that there were 6.
These children include Cora, Hannigan G. Mary,
William August, and Lafayetter "Lafe". I am in touch
with a man that is a direct decendent of Lafayette and
has done research on that line. He will be visiting
the family cemetary in Bedford, Indiana soon and has
offered to search out any tombstones there for the
family. William Thomas was the son of an unknown
Chestnut and Libby. Libby is a widow in the 1850
census of Green County Indiana. They had 3 children
that I am aware of including George born 1833, William
Thomas born 1831 and Margaret born 1836.
Do you know the name of Libby's husband, the father of
William Thomas? Do you know Libby's maiden name? Do
you have any additional children in these lines? What
is your pedigree back to Libby?
My Phone is (209)239-3738. I live in Manteca, CA. I
work weekday mornings. If you have any questions,
email or call. I am a beginner on the computer, but I
am willing to try to send you what I can. Thanks,
Diana Bowden
