Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Whoops, sorry about that.
It is the Family Tree Maker software. They have recently created an
alliance with Ancestry that works and merges directly from the ancestry.com
files.

Good news for those of us using FTM. The 2006 version allows you to search
the records at Ancestry.com with a sort feature. I looked up Census records
for certain years for Chestnut/Chesnut and was able to sort them by birthday
and birthplace! This sure beats setting for an hour scrolling through
unrelated data. It merges the records directly into your files complete
with the source records and images.
Just thought I'd pass this one on. Makes finding Chestnuts born in Ireland
and Scotland much easier to locate in the states.

Norman-
Do any of YOUR Chestnuts end up in PA? I know from census information that
my James Chestnut and his 2 sons Alex & Robert came to the US from Ireland
in 1849 and arrived at a port in New York. I cannot find them on an 1850
census, but by 1860 the family was firmly planted (all siblings) in
Armstrong County, PA. I do strongly believe that his father Robert was born
in Scotland, but relocated his family to Ireland.
What are the best places (online) to search for my James in Ireland? I am
not familiar with how to search for info in the UK. Are there any groups
you recommend I join? I've been doing this for over 10 years and searching
the UK still confuses me.

Don't know but my husband's grandfather, in 1910 Elmer Chestnut 26 yo had a
brother named Robert age 24. They were born in Pa but I don't know where.
In 1910 their mother Mary B Chestnut also born in PA was 46 years old. Her
husband is deceased. Maybe she was married to a Robert, who could be the
son of the Robert you are looking for? My husband's paternal side has
always claimed Scotch-Irish heritage. If you have any information on
Chestnuts in Pa I would be interested. My husband's grandfather, Elmer died
early before his son Elmer was born( my husband's) and his mom died a few
years later. Those kids were raised by their mom's brother and wife and we
lost track of the Chestnut family tree. In 1910 Elmer, Robert and theri
widowed mom Mary lived with a family named Horenstein, who were from Russia.
Do you know anything about where and when the Chestnut who relocated to
Armstrong Co may have moved to, what thier names are or their ages. Marlene

Would love your information. I have heard that my Armstong Co.
Chestnut/Chesnutts came from Scotland via Ireland via New Brunswick to PA.
I would love to find more information on the New Brunswick Chestnuts. Our
Grandfather always said his family was from Scotland. I believe it was the
son James who brought the name to Armstrong County, PA.
Here is my descendant tree. Could you verify it's acquracy from what you
know?
