Linda,
Thank you for directing me to this Chesnut website in response to my
query. I don't believe this family connects with mine, although there
was one boy born before 1870 named Henry Edmund and I note you have
numerous Edmunds.
Apparently what happened was that the One World Tree feature on Ancestry.
com combined two Chesnut families that contained a Samuel and a Mary as
parents. This combined tree turned out to contain a one family that was
printed in Don Chesnut's Web stie in Rootsweb. Once I arrived at that
family information, I was able to ascertain that it contained information
which my cousin sent to Don, asking him if he knew of any family that it
might fit into. The name of Samuel as the father was only speculative,
and my cousin had it because I told her about a shipping list in which I
saw that a Samuel Chesnut and a Mary Kane came over together on the same
ship. (We did know that we were looking for a male Chesnut and a female
Kane who married.). Don Chesnut apparently thought that the information
was all valid--or maybe my cousin somehow gave him this impression. At
any rate, he has it on the internet, but it is not valid information!!
So, I have been on a wild goose chase looking for information that I
myself originally looked upon as a mere clue as to the name of this great
grandfather who is said to have come over from Ireland. The wife was
Elinor Kane, from the Isle of Man.
Thanks for your response. I will have to keep on looking!
