Well, my great grandfather was John Ellis Chesnut, who was born in 1850 in
Cherokee County, Alabamaand married to Nancy Almeda Webb. He died in 1924.
His father was Jonathan Chesnut, born in South Carolina January 10, 1824 and
died in Cherokee County, AL on October 5, 1917. Jonathan was married to
Elizabeth McMahon, who was born in Tennessee. I don't think any of them got
as far south as Tuscaloosa, but I know nothing about their siblings.
I think our Chesnuts are still in Gaylesville, Alabama but I'm not sure. I
haven't gotten around to contacting any of them yet.
