BJ,
I don't know if there is any connection, but I have a William Henry
Chesnutt of SC who appeared in Alabama 1850. Had a wife, Mary
E who came from Tennessee (we have never been able to find out
where). She must have been married prior to WH because she had
a 21 year daughter which is named as a beloved stepdaughter in
WH's will.
If you see anything here, let me know.

Norman, within the papers of my wife's late great uncle, Raus McDill Hanson,
1889-1990, is reference to Alexander Chestnut b in Scotland, and wife Mary
O'Draine.
His son, David, came to America 1 Oct 1772 on the ship "Dunluce". David was
born about 1710 in Ireland and died in Camden, Craven Co., SC in 1779. His
wife was Janet Brown, dau of Alexander Brown & Margaret McDill.
Their daughter Margaret Chestnut, born 1 Nov 1739 and died 6 Dec 1827. Son
James McDill b 20 Dec 1769, Co. Antrim, died 21 Nov 1854, Henderson Co, IL,
wed 8 May 1799 in S.C., Margaret Chestnut, ancestry not known, who was born in
SC 25 Dec 1778 and d in IL 29 Feb 1848
Most of the communications over the years about the Chestnut, varied
spellings, consisted of a letter of inquiry and no furhter responses.
Frustrating. Erik Conard

Hello Eugenie (Eugenie Cynthia Taylor, ctmqm(a)earthlink.net)
I was doing a quick search for my Chestnut lot of North Antrim and located
your submission to the ROOTSWEB data files. (I have pasted your data towards
the end of this email and have forwarded to the CHESNUT-L(a)rootsweb.com )
I would be very interested to know if it is possible to locate the original
references given in the data. I know some - the part about Samuel's
gravestone is in Camac's book 'A History of the Parish of Derrykeighan'. He
gives the date and a description of the ploughman. The stone is now
unreadable. Very close by is the burial ground of the Chestnut family of
Carnanreagh and several members of that family are interested in genealogy.
In the same volume is the piece about the Chestnuts and McKinneys of
Carnaff. But no details of Samuels family.
I recently located (in Belfast) a copy of a will of a Samuel Chesnut of
Carnaff made 1777 and probated 1783 after his death. The beneficiaries in
the will were son Benjamin (further records of him exist here in Ireland)
and three daughters - married names McKinney (x2) and widow Stockman. You
can read the full text of the will at
http://www.parkesfamily.btinternet.co.uk/willof.htm
It is interesting that a William McKinney was a witness at the marriage of
my great-grandparents, John Chestnut and Jane Chestnut in 1869.

Letter from the Camden Archives Chesnut Family File --from Henry S. Chesnut
in Louisville, Kentucky, dated September 23, 1965, to Mrs. Arthur Metts in
Camden, South Carolina:
Dear Mrs. Metts:
I am happy to have your letter of September 18. I had written the County
Court Clerk at Camden to inquire if he knew of anyone interested in the
history of the Chesnut family of Camden.
We have done research in South Carolina, Virginia, and the Ulster Plantation
of Northern Ireland.
The Chesnut family arrived in the Barony of Dunluce, County Andrim, Northern
Ireland in 1690. That is as far back as we can presently establish and
prove. Samuel Chesnut was the head of the family. The Chesnuts and the
McKinneys jointly held "Carnaff" which was the name of the townland in
Derrykeighan Parish there. Samuel Chesnut is buried at the south wall of the
church. His gravestone reads 'killed while ploughing 1734'. The present
sexton advises that some one brings flowers periodically to the grave but he
does not know the name of the person.
We know of four sons of Samuel who came to America: Alexander, James,
William, and David. There may have been more. Alexander (your ancestor)
settled in Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia) where he was
killed by the Indians. David (my ancestor) settled in Chester County, South
Carolina. William settled in Louisa County, Virginia, and a son John went to
Kentucky. James settled somewhere in North Carolina.

Is one of the four Chesnuts mentioned the ancestor of the Chesnuts who lived
in Camden? Can anyone link this family to the Chesnutt family of Hawkins
County, Tennessee?
Strange, my connection with the Chesnut family has been thru an uncle of
sorts, one
Robert Kennedy, who wed a Chesnut girl and lived in Bushmills.
BUT, please be aware that my wife is twice a Chestnut descendant from the
South
Carolina bunch! I have the McDill Genealogy, written 1940 by Robert McDill
Woods,
and these Chestnuts were from around Broughnow, Broughshane in Co. Antrim.
I do not know much more but welcome any communication.

Beverley,
Would a William Chesnutt b. MS. 1831 with wife Sallie A. and son William D.
be a part of your family group. Recent information that part of my family group
moved to Kansas, and living with this Chesnutt(in IL.) is a Roxinea ORR
right age to be one of the two missing Orr girls(I have there birthdates) living
as a Niece with William. Other than William all born IL.

Hi! I just subscribed to the list and I'm hoping someone might be able to
help me find my grt..grandmothers family. Her name was Julia Ann Chestnut, b
June 12, 1812 in Early County, Georgia. She died August 31, 1901 in Union
Springs, Alabama. She was married to William Anderson Mallory on June 2,
1833. I have a copy of a "Certificate of Ordinary of the County of
Applicant's Residence" from the county of Muscogee that Julia and William
Mallory's daughter, Julia Ann Mallory Haden, listed three witnesses:
A.J.Chestnut, J.D.Chestnut and M.J.Chestnut. This was in 1905. I assume
these were relatives. Thanks for your help.

A while ago (maybe 1 year ago) I was in contact with a subscriber (Frank,
Bill, Mike???) who had folk from Ballywatt in his tree so this may interest
him.
