Jasper was my ggrandfather. I'm researching thi line. Was this John Jasper
and Elizabeth's son? If so, do you know what Mary's maiden name was and when
and where they were married?
Is any of John's people researching this line? I'v never been in touch with
any.
Lee
Hi Ray,
Thanks for the info on Kinchen Chesnut. Already have a grt deal of info on
him, but as of yet, have been unable to connect him to my line. Maybe
someday if court records/probate/will documents ever surface.
When's the book ready for publication?
Again, many thanks,
Marnie
Linda,
As you all can tell, I'm reading down my email and should have included
this in with the other. My records show that Arthur's wife's name was Nancy
_______. I have Arthur's lineage back to Alexander Chesnutt of IOW and
would be glad to communicate with you further.

Married Emily Devereux Sep. 29 1825 in Escambia Co. FL (Terr.). I have his
father as Arthur Chesnutt, b. 1770 NC, d. ca. 1830, Bladen Co. NC, though no
proof of this. The wife was unknown. Kinchen had a brother, Bailey, m. Anna
Turlington; they had a child Elizabeth. This is a far as I've been able to
go with this line. Emily died in Natchitoches Par. La, in 1891; I have
visited her grave. I'd love to be able to connect with your info.

Sandra,
I have looked in my database for your two Chesnutts and can't find them. I
am interested in them because of their origin near Florence, SC. They could
be from a branch of the Sampson County family that migrated into Horry
County or they could be part of the SC Chesnutt family not associated with
the migrating NC family. I am of the NC family group.

I don't think I can help you. The Chesnut family I am looking for, I
believe lived in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. Will keep your

Ever come across any Orrs in your searches. Grandfather had three children
by first mariage. Only one name written and two Orr girls birthdates but no
names. Find him in Mo. married but not living with wife. Find a Roxinea Orr
living with William Chesnutt Illinios right age and place if she had
died. All my Orrs were born in Pa.

Pam:
Thanks for your reply to my effort to find out something further about the
Chesnutt family genealogy. I know you and Larry have been working. What do
you think is the best way to find out where William H. (Walker H) or whatever
his name is came from to Alabama. The two census's of 1860 and 1880 have
conflicting data as to place of birth. I am not familiar with the 1840
Agricultural census and that would indicate he was in Alabama before that
date. Where did you find the 1840 Ag census?
I really believe that the place of origin is probably SC or NC and that names
have been changed or some differences exist or some of our Internet friends
would have found a link by now.
Doris and I went to see Arnold yesterday and he seems to be doing fair. His
"gout" is most severe and we have learned from other health care givers that
indeed gout can get all over the body and is a form of arthritis. Doris
thinks it contributed to if not caused the death of her Father in 1969. They
could not treat gout and other ailments at the same time as the medications
clashed.
Hope you and your family are doing well.
Love
James
P.S. One reason I continue to put out the "Walker H." 1860 census is that I
see the name Walker often in other EMails to Rootsweb (Don Chesnut's)
website. Also there is a past legend that our GGgrandfather was a postman
and something happened to the mail and he walked all the way to either
Montgomery or fWashington to get it corrected. He alledgely was walking
along and caught up with a man riding a horse, walked along with him for
awhile and then bid him goodbye and walked off faster than the horse. Quite
a story to say the least but would give some basis for his nickname
being"Walker". However my census report of 1880 is the first indication he
was a Postmaster. Puzzling little kettle of fish we have here. Also I do
remember that the deeds someone gave Arnold a copy of did have William. And
I have been told in a genealogy class I took at UAB shortly after I retired
in 1990 that the Census reports are only as accurate as the Census taker who
might just fill out his report from a neighbor.
We'll just have to keep on trying. What do you think or did you get an
announcement about a book on Chesnutt's in two counties of NC and SC to be
published this Fall by A. Ray Griffin and associates. I have a feeling that
our branch of Chesnutt's came from that area. I have written to Ray Griffin
that I want to know about the book, cost, etc. I haven't heard from him yet.
