The given names Andrew Jackson were IMMENSELY popular in the 1840s and in the
1850s. Of the 200,000 names in my data base, the Andrew Jacksons were mostly
born BEFORE the Civil War. Just my two cents! Erik P Conard--Denver
A.J. almost always stands for Andrew Jackson, esp. from that time period.

I am interested in Chestnuts in Mississippi. The only thing I know about my
g-g-grandfather Uriah Chestnut is he married Cynthia Jane Burgess in Lowdes
Co., Mississippi in 1855.
I know nothing about him before this date and nothing after this date.
Cynthia Jane is next found on the 1870 Maury Co., Tennessee with two
children. Why she came to Maury Co. no one knows. I have been unable to
find the family on any 1860 census.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Marta,
According to the Augusta County Court Records in Chalkey's Chronicles of
the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, on 21 Mar 1786, "Alexr. Gibson's
claim as assignee of John Chesnutt, for 22 days driving cattle from Augusta
to Williamsburg--allowed."
I believe this means that John Chesnut sold any future right to claim
income/land, based on his service in the War, to Alexander Gibson.
Therefore, Patience would not have been eligible for a pension.
I sure could be wrong, I certainly have never checked for an application by
Patience....
Carol.

Thanks for that information. Gordon Walker is still in Berea, Kentucky. Many
of you met him at the Chesnut Reunion in Kentucky a few years ago. I'm sure
he would appreciate a few letters. He will be 89 this April. His address is...
Dr. Gordon Walker
336 Center St.
Berea, KY 40403
Gordon's wife died in 1998 and his health is not so great. He requires some
assistance. I don't believe he is actively working in genealogy.

Hi,
I have some info from a couple of folks, though I
haven't had time to check out the sources. Supposedly
his father is Jacob CHESNUTT, and there's a brother
named Charles. I'll have to pull out my notes and get
back to you on specifics. (This is just off the top
of my head, which isn't very reliable at this hour of
the morning! ha!)
More later,

Hi Ray
Definitely interested in the book. My address is as follows:
Nancy Taillie
4105 Mitchell Drive
Anacortes, WA 98221
I'll pass the word on to other family members who might be interested.
At one time, someone had suggested that the Chesnut/Chestnut/Chesnutt(etc)'s
of America were related somehow to the Sarsfield family in Ireland or
Northern Ireland. Has anyone done any research on this connection or know
anything about the time period involved? I noticed that rootsweb has a new
database on Sarsfields of Ireland (however only for the mid 19th century).
IRELAND. SARSFIELD (surname) Birth Records 1864 to 1868
54 records; Brian Sarsfield
