I am not sending this to the list in a mistaken attempt to unsub so
don't e-mail me. I have sent the request list their own message.
Just want to say that I have to take a break this summer. With the kid
home, vacations, and committees I ran out of time. Please remember my
brick walls and my home page. If you find my missing links, please
e-mail me directly. To all my new found cousins, keep in touch and to
the rest.... Read you next fall!

And the CHESNEY-L list takes care of the rest of the variations :~)
I keep my eye on the Chesnut list, because there is always a possibility
that my Chesneys dropped a "t" and/or a "u" somewhere up the line.

You're probably right, it is a little complicated, especially for newbies.

The Chesnut-L list is meant for all spelling variations including Chesnut,
Chestnut, Chesnutt, Chestnutt, McChesnut, Chesnet, Chesnau, etc. I had to
pick one spelling when I set up the list, so I picked the shortest one.
Rootsweb made Chestnut and Chestnutt available for adoption as new lists,
so I adopted them as well. Anyone signing up for those lists will be added
to the Chesnut list (the master email list for this surname) and will be
unsubscribed to the list they signed up on. There are several reasons for
this, (1) most of us are probably related, (2) most of our ancestors have
had their name spelled a variety of ways in public records (I know this
from personal experience), and some of these spelling variations exist
within one family. We have to look through all these spelling variations
when doing research and much of our research that is posted includes all
these spellings. It's a fact of life with a surname like ours; people
misspell our name continuously. I didn't want anyone to miss out on finding
their ancestors, so that's why I combined the lists. I hope this hasn't
confused any of the new members. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact me.

Why would some one want to unsubscribe from the Chestnutt list and only get
the Chestnut's -- they were probably all once the same family but some
started to add an extra T. Mine started out in Ireland as Chesnut and
ended up in Australia as Chestnut.

If a person wishes to unsubscribe from this mailing list, you don't send it
to this list. You send it to Chesnut-L-request(a)rootsweb.com and put the
word Unsubscribe in the subject and body of the message, with nothing else.

THANK YOU NORMAN for posting the Chesnut/Chestnut pages for us.
I am certain that we will all benefit greatly from the information.
Best wishes,
F. Daniel Chestnut
St. Louis, Missouri, USA
All spelling variations are on one list so I can't unsubscribe from just
one spelling.

Hi Rhonda,
William CHESNUT, Jr. (1727-after 1782), John CHESNUT (1749-1805), Jacob C.
CHESNUT (1775-?), Elizabeth CHESNUT (1801-1887) who married Benjamin EDWARDS.
All of the above information has been gleanded from other sources, and is not
verified with original vital record documents. What is your PA CHESNUT line?
Take care,
Marta Jackson Vaillancourt
