I just received some information about an early PA Chesnut family. Richard
(who married Jane) could be the son of...
William Chesnut (b. ca 1690, Nothern Ireland, d. 1754, Plumstead, Bucks
Co., PA) who came to America ca 1740 with wife and children. Known children:
John
Margaret
William
However, I would have thought this group to be Presbyterian rather than
Episcopal.

I have typed the first edition of the Ches(t)nut(t) returns in the 1901
census of Ireland for townlands around Ballymoney County Antrim. I suspect
that there are some missing from Mosside village and certainly some missing
from Coleraine area. The data includes ages and family relationships.
Will you e-mail me before 20 August 1999 if you want the file. It is 6500
bytes of plain text.

OK, the problem is that I don't know that much about that line. I think
that Thomas was the first to spell it that way. My husbands grandfather
used to tell the story of brothers getting into a big fight and deciding
they didn't want to be related. Once changed the spelling to Chesnutt.

Va.
Is it just me or is there anyone searching the Chesnutts in the states?
All of this Ballywho would be wonderful if I just knew who Thomas Patton
Chesnutt's parents were and where they came from. I'm keeping all or
Norman's posts, so that if anyone ever finds a link in PA to my
Chesnutts then instead of Ballywho I might be Tallyhoe!

Hi,
I joined the list about 2 months ago and thought someone might be able to
help. I am researching my great-great-grandfather, Samuel CHESNUT. For many
years, all I knew about him was that he was born in 1839, died in 1898, and
in between, was in the Civil War in the 26th Ohio Infantry and was married to
Mary Hussey.
Recently, I found him on the LDS site under several listings. It showed that
his parents were James Blaine CHESNUT (b. 1810 in Chillicothe, Ohio-d. ?) and
Nancy Ann TRUITT (b. 1814 in Chillicothe, Ohio-d. ?), married March 2 or 3,
1835 in Scioto Twp., Ohio. Samuel was born on Nov. 26, 1839 in Chillicothe,
and he married Mary Hussey on Sept. 30, 1868 in Ross County, Ohio. It also
gave me his siblings, only one of which matched the ones I had from family
stories. I sent to Ross County for marriage certificates on both James B.
CHESNUT and Samuel CHESNUT, and they found nothing. The submitter listed on
this information no longer lives at the address given.
Does any of this information match anyone elses? I'd love to find more on
this line.
Thanks,
Jan Rader

In my travels through the Mosside presbyterian church (County Antrim,
Ireland) records, I spotted a baptism:
6 November 1859. Samuel McKinley son of Samuel McKinley of Philadelphia USA.
I seem to remember hearing that US president McKinley came from North
Antrim. Can anyone on the list educate me on this one?
Sorry for being 'off topic'.
