Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Charlotte,
To which group of Virginia Chesnutts are you referring? I descend from the
Alexander Chesnutt of Isle of Wight, VA who d. 1690. The name of his wife is
unknown. I've always suspected that the IOW group was related to the
northwestern VA group, but haven't been able to prove it.

After taking time to pursue other branches of my family tree, I'm once again
returning to my brick wall in the CASTO line -- name, Elizabeth
CHESNUT/CHESTNUT who married Charles PARSONS cas. 1764. Has anyone had any
luck in identifying the names of her parents?
I've had a couple of leads, none proven , and am wondering where to proceed
from here. One source claimed that Elizabeth is the daughter of Alexander
CHESNUT (d. 1749 VA) and Mary O'DRAINE/ADRAINE (d. 1762-68 VA). This would be
nice as there's a lot of available documented information about them. Another
source lists Elizabeth's father as James CHESTNUT (b. between 1693-1724 in
Ireland).
If anyone has any clues the information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Rootsweb has just implemented a new service. It is a threaded archive from
existing mailing lists. I have signed the Chesnut list to be archived and
Threaded.
You will be required to signup and give your alias and a password of your
choice. Also you must allow a cookie. This insures the spammers don't get
the addresses. See the anouncement below on how to sign up.
Here is the official Announcement.
* * *
THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read
122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by
visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are
from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow
with its public debut.
This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts
that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated
search engine to find what you are looking for.
To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and
password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for
passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address
harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and-
cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with
confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to
spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the
Archiver and then include their lists in the archives.
The next step is to start making old list messages available.
Thanks to Marc Nozell for implementing the threaded archives.
It's great work.

After today you can reach the beginning of the thread by going to
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/CHESNUT-L as more messages are threaded more
information will be available to new and old timers alike.
This was just transmitted to the Laurel County list.
