Dear Chestnut researchers
I have compiled a list of marriages where one of the parties was named
Chestnut (or usual spellings). It is from the Ireland/UK Registrars' index
(1845-1875) and gives the volume and page number where the record may be
found. This info is required to order copies form the registrars' offices at
Dublin or Belfast. I have indicated those marriages for which I have found
and listed the church record - just ask me for my data files.
I will try to remember those who have asked for files previously and send
the marriages index directly and immediately.
Next to appear will be records from Ballymoney Parish Church (Church of
Ireland, Established Church).

Norman,
Do you have a web site anywhere on the Chesnutts? I would like to see if I
have any links.

D. T. Chesnut, of Corbin is erecting quite a number of new buildings for the
purpose of opening a Summer Resort at Laurel River Springs, four miles west
of Corbin. This is a medical spring and is said to be one of the best in the
country. We hope he will have a crowd.
Dear List Members
While visiting my parents yesterday I was reminded of a minor inherited
defect that my mother and her mother (Anne Eliza Chestnut) both had. It is
concerned with the right hand. I don't wish to be too specific and risk the
possibilty of induced defects amongst list members! Interested to know if
this rings any bells with you.
I am in the process of updating my Chestnut data files. Included will be the
Tithe Records of 1825-32 and Pensions claims of 1908-1920. The set has now
grown to near 62Kbytes of text and I will offer it this time only as a
zipped attachment.
Kind regards

I just received the death certificate of my gr-gr-grandfather, Samuel CHESNUT
(s/o James Blain CHESNUT). He died in 1898 at the age of 58 in Madison
County, Indiana (Anderson). Not much information on it. But what's most
intriguing is the cause of death - Inanition. Meaning - exhaustion due to
lack of nourishment, starvation. He starved to death???? Wow!

I am seeking information on Alexander CHESTNUT, who died in the late 1600's
in Isle of Wright, VA. The following information was sent to me, with the
author stating "he didn't want anyone to contact him as he had worked had for
his information", so I won't ID him:
"The Rockingham Chesnut are NOT realetd to William of
Ireland/Scotland. Their line goes back to the 1660s to Alexander Chesnutt
who died in Isle of Wight County Va. Patiece (GUMM) & John (CHESNUT) came
from Rockingham County running from the law. He was a captain in
Revolutionary War. She and her brother and father were indentured servants.
John was youngest son.
William his brother stood to inherit. John (CHESNUT) stole 2 best horses, all
the
loose cash, and Patience (GUMM) and fled. Found wanted posters on him. Try
going
to Rockingham Co. (VA) Library. I did. Try Frankfort library in Ky also. Try
libaries in variuos parts of Va. "
Anyone who could help establish this Isle of Wright>Rockingham Co., VA line
