I have recently received a very poor photo copy of the appraisement of
Alexander Chesnutt's property, it is from a very poor microfilm, but it
is all
that is availble, thought others may want a copy. You can read the
name
Alexander Chesnutt , the date 20th May 1690 and the witness' who sign
the
document. I was thrilled with it even though I can read 99% of it.
Debbie.

Subject: Chestnut surname
Hello, I was given your name by Jack Horton. Who incidently told me to
tell you that he is still digging here in Philly and he also hopes that you
are
feeling well. He also sends his best to you.
I also am interested in the Chestnut surname, here is what I wrote to
Jack:
I am also researching the surname of Chestnut in Philadelphia. My
ggrandmother was Maria A. Chestnut b. 1861 to Samuel (born sometime in the
1830's?in
Ireland) and Mathilda Chestnut (maiden name ?) in Philadelphia, Pa. Maria
also had an older sister Elizabeth and a younger brother Samuel who may have
grown to adulthood. There were other children who died in early childhood or
infancy. The family was living next to another Chestnut (James) in
Philadelphia in 1870. I believe this person may have been a relative to my
Chestnut family. Samuel was employed as a carpet weaver. Mathilda died in
1871. Samuel remarried an Elizabeth? after this. He died before 1890. And
may be buried in Laurel Hill Cem. in Philadelphia (if I have the correct
Samuel
Chestnut). Samuel fought for the Union in the Civil War for 3 months. This
is stated in his naturalization papers. The family lived on Hope Street and
later Jefferson St. in Philadelphia. Anything sound familiar?
Thanks for your time, what do you think? Let me know.
Dawn ;-)
Hi Don,
I wrote to you some time ago about my possible connection to Paul Chestnut
in California. Either Paul or another Chesnut/Chestnut researcher told me
you're the general point of contact for the family.
I have established that my great grandmother Elizabeth Chestnut (shown as
Lizzie Chestnut on her birth certificate, born January 19, 1874; died April
17, 1966 and shown as Elizabeth Vance on the death cert) is the daughter of
Alexander Chestnut and Mary Murray. This Alexander is my
great-great-grandfather and is also the brother of Paul Chestnut's
grandfather James.
Paul and I have swapped family info (as much as I have been able to gather
about the Vances), and he's put it into his PAF file. I am still a very new
researcher (only 5 months), so I feel I am a contributor to Paul's line
rather than a compiler of my own.
...Genetic disorder called Alpha-1
Antitrypsin Deficiency. My genealogy studies were prompted by a concern for
identifying other members that may be at risk for inheriting this
disease. Fortunately, the Chestnut line does not show a history of death
due to "lung disorder," so I believe the Chestnut line is clear. However, I
would like to request that both you and Paul make a note in the family
records [about] this genetic problem. This is the type of thing that
should be documented for future researchers and descendants, just in case.
If you need more info about this disorder for the file, I will be happy to
send it to you.
Best regards,
Sharon Vance
