Appreciate the response, Anne. I was under the impression that James Polk
Chesney's wife was Phoebe Yadon. There are, however, Nelsons in the lineage
somewhere. I still don't have it all sorted out.
Thanks.
Bill

Some time ago I was asked by a subscriber to the ANTRIM list to
look up some material on Chestnut/McQuiston at our Public Record Office. It
turned out that the material concerned CHESNEY.
Anyway, what was there was a diary (1796) of an ALEXANDER CHESNEY b 12 Sept
1755 at Dunclug near Ballymena. He had gone to US and then returned. He
gives family information and I condense it:
His grandfather was Alexander (Mc)Chesney (one of several brothers from Co
Tyrone and close to river Bann) married Jane Fulton (info given about her
sisters and brother).
His father was ROBERT Chesney (info given about Robert's 3 sisters) who
married Elizabeth Purdy in 1753.
Did not get Alexander's wife's name or those of his siblings.
Alexander's children, born in Ireland (before 1772)
Ann, Martha, Jane, WILLIAM, Robert, John and Peggy who died on voyage.
Born in America; Thomas and Eliza.
There is a quite detailed family tree of this family at the Public Record
Office. The reference numbers are D/1753 , T/737/1 and T/1095/1 and I can
email to anyone requesting a tree constructed from the diary and a tree
constructed from one of the above.
Hope this helps in some small way.
