I represent one of the "European" Chesney lines.
Instead of the British Isles, my Chesney's came from the Czech Republic about
1867 (then called Bohemia, part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). The original
family name was spelled "St'astny" or "Stasney", this sounds a lot like
Chesney (the st' construction is a soft "ch" sound) and means "happy go lucky"
in Czech.
I know of Chesneys from Poland whose original spelling was Sczcesny - also
meaning "lucky" - the languages and cultures are similar.
I'd like to hear from any other Bohunks with the Chesney or Stasney name in
their backgrounds.

My Great-grandmother was named Martha VanBuren McChesney. Her father was
Alexander McChesney, born in Pennsylvania and her mother was Mary Spencer,
born in Canada. Martha was born December 18, 1866, in Springfield, Illinois.
She married Thomas Edward Fegan in 1887 in Boulder Colorado. They had two
children Irvin Edward and Orville D. This is all the information I have on
Martha. Does anyone have more.

My McChesneys' were from Virginia. There is no proven relationship to
the PA McChesneys' except through the marriage of Thomas Jackson
McChesney, whose father was from PA, to Susannah K. (McChesney)
McChesney.

Where were your McChesney's from? I am also looking for McChesney information in Albany
NY.

I'm not from your line, but I do have two William in mine. My first
William was born 1710 in Baltimore, MD (his family came from Ireland in
the 1700's). His son was William Jr, born 1756 in Cecil Co., MD ---
My name is Anne Chesney The first William was my 5xgreat grandfather.
It appears to be my turn. My great grandfather was Robert Lee Chesney. He
was born Aug. 4, 1887 in Union County, TN on June 25, 1905 he married Parlee
Hubbs (b. 5/16/1887 in Union County, TN; died 8/28/1969 in Knoxville, TN).
Robert Lee died 3/4/1978 and is buried in Lynnhurst Cemetary in Knoxville, TN.
Together they had one child a daughter, Cecil Hazeltine Chesney (b. 8/23/1906
at Chesney Station, TN; died 7/21/1976 in Knoxville. She married Ross
Alexander McPhetridge (b. 6/11/1903 in Knoxville; d. 3/9/1980 in Knoxville.
They married on 7/4/1925 and had one daugther, Ella Jean McPhetridge, my
mother.
Robert Lee was the son of John Wesley Thornburg Chesney (b. 1/13/1858; d.
5/20/1938) and Anna Eleanora Needham (b. 1/16/1860; d. 4/18/1928) Robert Lee
had three siblings: Luther L. (b. 9/19/1882; d. 4/22/1917); Alice; and
William Albert (b. 11/8/1884; d. 12/21/1938).
John Wesley was the son of Chesney (b. 12/5/1794 in Spartunburg, SC; d.
6/18/1876 in Union County, TN; buried at the Chesney Farm.) His father died
on the way to Tennessee in 1804. John was married 3 times. His last wife,
Ruthie Lane (b. 11/3/1815; d. 6/8/1862) was the mother of John Wesley.
If anyone knows the names of the siblings of John Wesley, I would appreciate
hearing from you. I only know that he had a brother named Tillman, a sister
named Rhoda, and two brothers who died at the same time as Ruthie Lane.
Respectfully,
Ann Chappell Tallent

I descend from a Benjamin CHESNEY b. December 15, 1791 SC, d. 1847
Washington CO, IL. His wife was Julia Ann HAWKINS. One of their son's was
Larkin CHESNEY b. August 16, 1817 d. Mar 11, 1886. Larkin was married to a
Sophia. One son was Josiah CHESNEY. Josiah marr. Alice Johnson. My
grandfather was Grover "Doc" Elmer CHESNEY, b. May 31, 1885 d. May 31, 1963
Bonnie, IL. "Doc" married Nola Pearl ALLEN b. Mar 04, 1891 d. May 24, 1963
in Bonnie IL. One of their daughters was Elva Agnes CHESNEY b. Jun 28, 1908
who married my father Otis Cornielus BRADDY b. Jul 08, 1907 d. May 21, 1989
Ina, IL. I have no proof of any of the above information. The above info
found in my grandmothers bible. She listed several other CHESNEYS names
also. Benjamins children: Larkin, Elacke, Benjamin, William. Larkins
children: Ben, Isam, NIll, Josiah, Mary, Kate, Julia and Martha.
Elacke (may be Alexander) children: James, Mark, and JoAnn. Benjamins
children: Oliver and Oscar. William's children: George Edward and two half
sisters. George Edwards children: Clyde, Walter Lee, Noble, Earl, Russell
Edward, Florence and Nellie. There was a name Tom Chesney not connected to
anyone... Isecona (Isam) children: Lonny (Alonzo).
I would love to have all the dates of the my CHESNEY line. I have seen a
list showing a Larkin CHESNEY that goes back to a Robert CHESNEY from IR
but dont know if it is my Larkin or not.
Any fills in this information would be very much appreciated.

Hmm. Well I got the two Pearsons books first. They are a good
starting and overview type place.
However there are errors here and there. The information comes
basically from the church
records, but also from some other stuff from the period.I got the
Albany church book from
Genealogical Publishing Company in Baltimore, Md. They have probably
the finest collection of
genealogical books of anyone. They certainly have seen most of my
spare cash for years. I am very
fond of published records. It at least gives you a fair shot and
sponsors, etc. Sponsors for the early
settlers does help. My paternal line is only from Albany-Schenectady
until my grandfather, so I
have an enormous library of that area, not much else however. Steph

I guess its my turn on the roll call: I'm starting with William Chesney
(Sr) was born ABT 1710 in Baltimore, MD (his family came from Ireland in
early 1700's. Next was William Chesney Jr and his wife Mary
McAuley(they had 6 sons and 3 daughters). One of their sons, Thomas
Chesney and his wife Hannah Mitchell (they had 3 sons, and 2 daughters).
One of Thomas and Hannah's sons, Kent M. Chesney and his wife Hannah J.
Price had 8(?) sons and 2 daughters. From their children, was my
ggrandfather Oliver M. Chesney and his wife Mary Ann Morris. Oliver and
Mary Ann lived in Topeka, KS and had 2 sons, one was my grandfather
Ralph J. Chesney Sr. If anyone needs any certain date let me know.
Anne I have most of the dates for all of the children.
My grandfather, James Chesney, was one of four brothers who came to the U.S.
from Co. Antrim (Ahoghill area) in the period of 1871 to 1885. John Chesney
came first to New York but ended up in Kansas City, MO. Next came James
Chesney to Kansas City, MO and David Chesney to Chicago, IL. The last was
Robert Chesney who came to Pittsburgh, PA but ended up in Kansas. I would be
glad to correspond with anyone having any interest in these families and share
information.
For the past year I have been concentrating on searching for descendants of
the David Chesney who went to Chicago since I have never had any contact with
this branch. I have found the names of his children and of some
grandchildren, but, so far, no living person. Need help.

Hi there Chesneys! I have a John Chesney that I do not know his
parents. He came to Texas about 1825. He was born ca. 1800 and married
May 14, 1830 to Elizabeth Castleman born ca. 1810. They received a land
grant in Texas. Elizabeth's parents were Sylvanus Castleman and
Elizabeth Lucas. They were married in Davidson, Co. TN.

Hi everyone,
I am researching Chesney from County Antrim, Ireland. I am a descendant
of Robert Chesney born before 1669 probably in Ireland. My grgrandfather
William Burnett Chesney left Ireland for Canada about 1885. He married
Martha Ann Sprarrow in Canada. He came to Pa. in Dec 1887 with a sister
Mary Jane and brother John.I have all descendants in America and am most
interested in anyone having kin in Co. Antrim.

Hello,
I'm new to the list and the first mail that came in was Anne's
suggestion that there be a roll call - so here goes.
I myself am Anne Stiedl - I live in Bavaria but I'm the first of my
direct lines to emigrate. I grew up in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire,
Scotland, and my Chesneys came from Kirkcudbrightshire.
The furthest back I can get definitely is to my 3xgt grandfather,
William Chesney who was born around 1778 in Kells parish,
Kirkcudbrightshire. He married Agnes Ferguson and their family was:
Margaret 1809, William 1813, Mary 1819, John 1822, David 1825, Thomas
1829. William died a sad death in 1845 from lockjaw.
The next William (b. 1813 at Clenrie-d. 1862 at Laggan on Dee) married
twice: his first wife was Janet Milroy and their children were John
(1843-1925) and William (1845 - 1925); William's second wife was Mary
Johnstone and their family were: Barbara (1851-1927), Agnes (1853-?),
Annie (ca 1856-1940), Robert (1857-1933), Thomas (1860-1927).
Robert (b. 1857 at Laggan - d. 1833 at Newton Stewart) married Mary
McMurdo and had: William (1885-1914 - killed by lightning in Wyoming),
John (1888-1966), Robert, Mary Jane (1890-1966), Thomas, Alexander Caig
(1895-1909), David (1897-1918), Annie (1898-1970).
Mary Jane Chesney was my Gran. She married William Carruthers and had
my Mum, Mary McMurdo Carruthers, and Annie Chesney Carruthers.
Do any of these people mean anything to you folks?
Looking forward to Chesney mail,
Regards,
Anne

I'm now starting to look for some of my ggggrandfather Thomas Chesney's
brothers, the one I'm for right now is Benjamin Chesney(b. Feb 4, 1791)
and Jesse Chesney(b. Sept 23, 1802). This is my brick wall comes up,
anyone know about these two???? Thomas was born May 8, 1784 in Harford
Co., MD I guess everyone else was too? Their parents were William
Chesney Jr and Mary McAuly. Anne Chesney
It might be time for a CHESNEY roll call, you all are alittle slow out
there, noone is writing about their family, and I'm guitly too, ( I'm so
guitly I can't even spell the word) but come on. I know Linda would
like to hear from everyone too. Now that the Chesney Clan Newsletter is
gone for awhile, lets make like a family and write to each other, maybe
we'll find something out about our own line. I guess I haven't written
because no one else has, and I know now that no good reason. I want to
hear from a CHESNEY or a CHESNEY-in-law. Let's stay together with or
without the newsletter. Anne Chesney
