I would suggest you try to get a birth and/or death certificate for your Hiram. You may be able to find out where he was born thru the census, the state at least. Also query boards are really great.
Our Hiram never married to the best of our knowledge. He was a private during the civil war for Illinois.
Happy hunting, Linda Lee

Hi Linda and others -- I am a descendant of Jacob Chesley and was intrigued by your mention that he lived in Wisconsin, as did his granddaughter Ida Chesley Chamberlain. I lost track of Jacob in Colton, St. Lawrence County, New York and thought he must have died there. What a nice surprise to find him in Wisconsin! Did his wife, Laura, also come to Wisconsin? Can you help me pick up the threads of this search? Do you know where Jacob and Laura are buried? Would like to correspond further about the children of Jacob and Laura Chesley.
Karen Winfield
