Sara,
There was a Johanne Felt Chesley born in New York, probably Claverack County, July 30 1791. His parents were John and Magdalena Landt Chesley. Magdelena was the daughter of Johann Landt and Elizabeth Phillips. The Felt came from Elizabeth's parents I think. I have to look it all up. Let me take a look thru my info and I will get back to you. I believe your John Felt Chesley was the brother of my Jacob Chesley. I have info on this line, but not a lot on John.
I think I can at least get you started on the right line to follow.
Linda

I didn't take offense at all, just thought I might clear up a misconception that all Chesleys descend from Phillip. I have a hunch there may be a connection somewhere way back but my Chesleys come from Old France and the name was originally Jesley/Jestly.

I'm sorry, I meant that message for Sara Spencer.
All Chesleys do not originate with the Phillips however.

Dennis,
I am wondering if you could give me some names of your Chesleys. My 3rd great grandfather Jacob Chesley lived in Wisconsin as did his granddaughter Ida Chesley Chamberlain Copeland Barnes. If you come from these Chesleys I have pictures and tons of info I am willing to share. I may be able to help you get started.
If you are interested please email me at leebears(a)techline.com
I also have copies of two of the Chesley coats of arms.

Well the odds are your Chesley line works its way back to one of the original Chesley's that came to America during the 1600's both Philips one going to Virginina and the other to New Hampshire. If you want you can write me at dlchesley(a)hotmail.com or our cousin Barbara Maloney at Bmal1487(a)aol.com for more info and a copy of the COA that is available.

My greatgreat grandmother Mamie Harriet Chesley, had witnessed an attack on a pioneer coming to oregon in the late 1800's, the man had murdered a native american female and her child and the womans family insisted that they hand him over. I would like to know more on this, the details have been lost, and I would like to know when her family came to oregon, the trail scout was Kit Carson.
