Hi Janet
I believe I am also a descendant of Philip Chesley of Oyster River/Durham, NH, but I've hit a gap in my line...
My ggggg grandfather was a Nicholas Chesley, born in Dover, NH, then moved to New Gloucester, Maine, where he married Sarah Hammond, and they and some of Sarah's brothers founded Paris, ME. Now, it's "rumored" that he is son of Jonathan, a Revolutionary War soldier (possibly lieutenant or captain) who was "was one of 16 men who captured the British Fort William & Mary at Newcastle, NH., Dec. 15, 1774, five months before Concord/Lexington. They have been called "the Heros of William & Mary". He was one of a handfull of men who took the Fort's powder by boat to Durham. Legend has it that some of that powder made it to the Battle of Bunker Hill. His grave is in Barnstead, marked by the DAR." And Jonathan was the son of Jonathan, who was the son of Philip, who was the son of Philip who came over on the "James."
Now, I haven't found any concrete evidence that Nicholas is Jonathan's son, so I was wondering if you would put out a query to your group to see if they have any information?
Thanks

I'm looking for information on Francis Eugene Chesley's brother Lorenzo Dow Chesley, born ca1837 NY, died 1869 and buried in Albion Cemetery IA. Was he married to Mary Ann Butterfield ca1860 and left three children? Any information or family stories appreciated.

Hi Linda,
My husband Larry is a Chesley descendent. His grandmother was Ollie Delpha Melisa Chesley(Cyrus Henry, Charles Henry, Jacob, John). My mother-in-law has a few pictures of which she has provided me copies (including the one that I posted in my original message). In May I visited the Denmark Cemetary near Langlois, Oregon and photographed the headstones of Cyrus Henry Chesley and Hattie (Jolly) Chesley, and their sons, Lyman V. Chesley and Frederick E. Chesley. I also photographed the headstone of Ollie Delpha(Chesley) Northup at the Norwary Cemetary near Myrtle Point, Oregon. E-mail me if you are interested in any of these. I'd love to see any photos that you may have of the Chesley family.
