Is sks planning to visit the Mobberley Research Centre soon who would be willing to look up 4 or 5 BMD's at St.Michael's, Marbury, relating to the Whittingham and Shenton families in the mid- to late 18th. Century please?
This is my first post for a while. Having been sidetracked by a one-place study I have now returned to my very early Phethean ancestors from Brereton.
I have been trying to assemble some family groups from the start of the parish registers of St Oswald from 1539 through to 1700. I have various John, Johanis, Johis and Jo first names. I know that John, Johanis and Johis are all synonymous for John, but is Jo an abbreviation for John or Joseph?
I’m assuming that Jo represents Joseph, as I have a record for John son of Jo Phythion in 1628. Unfortunately the offspring of my Johns and Jo’s are mostly concurrent, so I can’t use birth dates to separate them.
My own direct line from about 1535 to 1635 is Roger > William > John > Joseph which avoids confusion!
