Hello Agnes,
I viewed your post and sort of found it stange and simular to what I am looking for. Although the names of the four brothers coming to America between the mid and late sixteen hundreds are different, they could possibley be the same..(Very strange on two simular situations of four Cheshire brothers from England coming to or being here around the same time frame).
The info I have gathered has my four Cheshire brothers as being Turpin Cheshire 1698,Travis Cheshire abt 1700,Justin Cheshire abt 1702,and John Cheshire abt. 1705 from supposedly Cheshire Co. England. This however is not writen in stone and very few things are absolute, except maybe death.
My Cheshire Lineage (as far as I know) is I'm told Richard Cheshire abt. 1632,William Cheshire abt.1668/1674,Turpin Cheshire 1698,Richard Cheshire 1630,Randolph Cheshire 1653,Phillip Wood Cheshire 1690,Thomas Jefferson Cheshire 1827,Jefferson David Cheshire 25 Mar. 1862,Randall Jefferson Cheshire 6 Sep. 1923,James Furnie "Jim" Cheshire 3 Apr. 1942................
I would appreciate any and all info you may have on Cheshire Families that may connect...
Respectfully,
James F. "Jim" Cheshire

I am a direct descendent of Jonathan Cheshire and Elizabeth Hollis through their son John S. Cheshire and Nancy Ann Peake and their son James A. Cheshire who is the brother of Jonathan "John" Cheshire b. 1847.
On the 1850 Bullitt KY census J.T. male age 3 is listed with his parents John and Nancy A. Chisher and on the 1860 he is listed as John age 13 with John and Nancy Cheshire.
When I was in the Ft. Wayne Indiana genealogy library, I found an old marriage book: Bullitt County Kentucky Marriages 1797-1872 by Ludie Kinkead. The marriage record reads: Jonathan Cheshire, Single, ae 19 b. Ky, f. J.S. Cheshire. Parents b. Ky to Sarah A. Hyde, widow Jesse Hyde, decd. b. Georgia, ae 21 parents b. South Carolina. Date: 12-17-1866 and 12-18-1866 (I am guessing the 17th was the application and the 18th was the marriage.) Return by Geo. L. Rogers, at Leonard Hyde’s house Brooks Station.
On the 1870 Mortality Schedule for Bullitt Co. KY is: Elizabeth Cheshire died October 1869, Bullitt Leaches KY. Died at 84 of dropsy of the heart. b. VA. Right age and place to be Jonathan’s wife. (I need to get a photo copy of this.)
Several years ago I corresponded with Bettie Vernell Cheshire Cagle, 474 Co. Rd. 3132, Houston, Alabama 35572, 205-489-5413, littldog(a)sonet.net. She is a direct descendent of John (Jonathan) Cheshire. She says his name was Jonathan “John” Cheshire. He died Buried in Ball Ground Cemetery at Sharp Mt. Church, Pickins Co. Cherokee GA. She has the birth and death dates for them: Jonathan: 13 Apr 1847--29 Sep 1912 and Sarah 13 Nov 1845--23 Apr 1926. Son of Jonathan and Sarah: William Thomas Cheshire b. abt. 1868 in Georgia. Son of William: William Virgil b. abt 1905 in Alabama—married Margaret Dill. She sent me a copy of a tin photo of Jonathan and Sarah.
In my searching I found: 1910 Cherokee GA census Jonathan Cheshire age 63 b. KY, Sarah A. 65 b. GA, 5 children 3 living, married 43 years. I have not found them on any other census records, but I haven’t done much searching on it.
On www.familysearch.org there is a marriage record for SARAHANN HERREN to Jesse I. HYDE 17 Jul 1862, Dawson, Georgia.
Leonard Hyde married Mary Herron 29 Dec 1859, Gilmer GA. Leonard and Jesse Hyde were in the Civil War in Georgia infantries.
I would be happy to correspond with you. Carol
Please email me copies of your old tintype photos. Thanks! Linda Read
