I'm afraid that I'm not much help for 18th century individuals. The only children listed of William's in the 1910, 1920, & 1930 censuses are Ambrose and Althelia (age 8, 1920 census). I just searched the WW2 army enlistment records and didn't find any CHESHIRE individuals from Prince William County (PWC). A Google search turned up a PWC record that listed public education teachers and Melvin was listed as serving within the county for 25 years as a science teacher - this was dated 2001, I believe. One would think that the Douglas W. CHESHIRE should turn up somewhere in the 1930 census. I sure haven't run across a Douglas in my CHESHIRE research in PWC. If I find out anything more, I'll be sure to let you know.

On Ancestry.com-U.S. Public Records Index, William and Sarah's son Ambrose is living in Woodbridge and living with him are Douglas W. Cheshire, 83, b. 1923; Helen A. Cheshire, 83, b. 1923; Melvin E. Cheshire, 50, b. 1956.
Could Douglas W. Cheshire be the son of William and Sarah? Sarah was 45 in 1923? Do you know if Helen is Ambrose's wife or if she is married to Douglas. And is Melvin the son of Ambrose or Douglas?

Thank you for taking the time and effort to respond to my posting re: William F. Cheshire. Your sources certainly point to Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Priest as the wife of William F. Cheshire!

I believe William Francis Cheshire (born February 18, 1878) married Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Priest. When Sarah's brother, John Thomas Priest, died in 1955, his obituary stated he had four surviving sisters, one of which was Lizzie Cheshire.
Sarah was born March 26, 1878 in VA, probably Fauquier County, and according to SSDI, Lizzie Cheshire died in May 1970, last residence Woodbridge, Prince William County, VA.
She was the daughter of John Ferguson Priest, born March 29, 1855 in VA, probably Fauquier County, and died after 1930 census was taken, he was living in Cumberland, Allegany County, MD, and first wife Mary S. Priest (who was John's first cousin), born Oct 31, 1856 in Lewis County, WV, and died December 11, 1881 in Rappahannock County, VA.
